Rectangular Black Box Covers Lower Half of the Screen

DVD autoplay starts out just fine, then when I press play on the remote this rectangular black box appears about which covers the picture and won't go away. It covers Menu items and anything shown in the lower portion of the screen. This rectangular box leaves about an inch of display to the left and right of the box and about 0.5 inch on the bottom. The top of the box is about halfway up the screen.

I've checked the User's Guide to no avail.

Any suggestions?

Believe it or not, the thing that "works" is to take mt remote from my tv (an old sony) and press the "tv/video" button. each time the black box appears, if i do this, it disappears. i have no idea why.

I found this because I"m having the EXACT same problem with my DVD. Very frustrating that nothing works....

I have a42PX75U Panasonic TV. Lately when I try to put a DVD or VCR tape I get a large black rectangular box that I can't keep off the screen. Any Suggestions?

ONE: Just unplug the power cord for 20 minutes, then power it back up.

TWO: Then, after the reset in ONE go into the on-screen-display area (or on the remote control for some sets) and disable the closed captioning.

That should clear it up.

There is a rectangular black box across the screen - it goes away when I use the favorite button and have multi screens showing - it returns when I close out the favorites. Color, sound, picture quality...

in the customer menu--find the closed caption settings---you will most likely find the set has been set to TEXT 1---with the remote select either CC1 or OFF---the black box was for text (books) and was not ever used much---usually someone engages it by accident

A black rectangular black screen shows up but..... sony trinitron

Check the set up. You may have closed captioning turned on which will show up as a black box if there is no closed captioning information for the selected channel. If that fails to resolve the problem, update this.

Thanks,
