Little funny squares on screen

I have a sony kdf-e50a12u. Works fine but now when I watch TV, there are these little coloured squares that spread across the screen. And when I use the menu or volume control, the pixels shrink to a 1/4 of the tv screen, but then return when I change channel.

It is definitely software related, any ideas as to the source or solutions?

Depending how long you have owned it and if a Lamp was ever replaced, it probably needs to be replaced. You can check with SONY at
1800-222-SONY and see if they could sell and send you one.
Hope this helps,

SOURCE: My sony bravia kdf-e50a12u turns itself off

Hello Abasama:
Ok so you have gotten other assistance and no luck huh..
First where did u purchase the lamp, Look at it and make sure its a phillips type lamp, Most sites will sell you a lamp made by LTI these lamps are of poor quailty and proformance. IF the green lamp light is flashing along with the red light, The green is in most cases the lamp light error indicator, the red one next to it is the Temperture indicator. first your need to determine how may flashes the light are indicating, You could have a Bad thermistor which is located on the lamp housing itself, its use to report the lamp temp back to the main signal board. But this error code usually gives 6 flashes and 5second intervals, and repeats ifself. I have an Ebook I wrote for these types of error codes which might help you. So this is what i want u to do.

1. First turn off television
2. In sequence using your orginal sony remote that came with the set, press DISPLAY KEY, 5 KEY, VOL UP THEN PRESS THE POWER BUTTON, you must press all 4 buttons within 3secs or it will not work. the set should come on with a dianostic mode menu, with options like Fans, lamp, lamp hours, lamp door etc.. some menus are different but all sony televisions uses these code to access the diagnostic screen. Next to the options are recorded error numbers the number of times a perticular error has occured. Example (Lamp Driver----------4, or Lamp door-----------1. this indicated that the lamp door has been removed once.
or Lamp Driver has either failed 4 times or the unit tried to light the lamp 4 times.. Just remember that the number to the right represents the number of times and error has occured for that perticular function. This simple menu should lead u in the right direction for solving your problem. One note i forgot to mention, the lamp driver error also could mean the lamp itself is bad and not the driver(Ballast). Also when you have solved your problem go back to the diag menu and hit the 8 key on your remote to reset all error options back to zero. to get out of the menu just turn off power with remote, you can do this first after you see what error is being reported the go back and see what it records to futher help you troubleshoot your set

Hope this helps, I sell the Ebook for 19.95 which shows you this procedure and how to replace your color wheel and so on..
you can email me at [email protected]

Good luck..

Two blinks - B+ over current protection (OCP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 2 blink fault. Could be a short in the power supply of any of the circuits.

Remove screen sony KDF E50A12U

This is a DLP and the screen unit may only be sold with all of the screens(it will have up to three). Not in most cases a do it yourself task, most of these the entire screen unit needs to be removed, screens are attached from the inside of the frame unit there.

You may be able to Google the model number for a service manual which if found would have a exploded view showing the best way to do this.

Sony kdf e50a12u New bulb but until tv has warmed up (10 min.) it intermittenly loses sound but not picture

The lamp of course will or should not affect the sound---next time it is cold try it on a rear input---a DVD player etc to see if same issue--this could narrow down where the problem is.

Small blue dots clustered when the screen is dark, near the projection point.

Hi , it seems you are experimenting a light engine problem. Here's how your tv works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLLHnQ4y-wo Basically there's 3 LCD chips that create the colors and image by blending together. When these chips start to melt you will get those blue spots, pixilation even vertical lines. You will need to replace the light engine. Have a blessed one!

Sony bravia KDF-E50A12U rear projecion tv wont turn on

Hi it sounds like it could be an issue with board that powers the lamp ,it's called the ballast. When you put a new lamp in the ballast has to provide more power ,when it starts to go weak it will not light up.Sometimes you can put your old lamp in and will work fine.Try partstore.com they might have it right there.Hvae a blessed one!
