Yellow just means that it's on standby. If there's a new message or there's an update, your Wii will start blinking blue.
If you want to turn it completely off, just go to the Wii menu, Click
the Wii icon (Options), then click Wii settings, click the right arrow
to get to Wii System Settings 2, then click on Wii Connect 24, then
click on Standby Connection, then click off.
Don't worry about the heat. It's normal when you have it on standby.

To add to what has already been said, If you hold the power button on the console in longer, it will turn off instead of standby.
One more thing to add to that Vidgamefixer also in WiiConect24 is Slot Illumination turn that off or on dim to change the Blue Disk Illumination.

The only thing i can think of is click the switch to turn off the PS3 completely leave it off for about 30 second turn the switch back on and try again. If the doesn't work you may have a problem with your power supply and might need to get your PS3 serviced

There are many ways to repair this. Just Google "Red ring of death repair" and you'll find many articles and videos explaining how to do it. It'll be tough, but it's a doable repair. Hope this helps!
