PS3 USB ports won't work

What would stop the USB ports from working? They won't charge my controllers, but they will read a USB memory stick...

Yes I have used another cable, with no luck. However, the cable I used is good because I can connect the controller (PS3 SixAxxis) to my laptop and charge it that way. But the reason for my question is I have bought a new wireless controller that connects via the USB port, and when I plug in the USB adaptor for it, I get a green light but it goes out almost immediately.

All I could say is have a person who is really smart with technology take your Ps3 aapart and check the diodes on your fuse board (green plate that has a buncha little things on it). check to see if your diodes could be burnt or possobly loose. unless you can take it apart but have troubles putting it back together i wouldent try it. have a really smart person fix it. not a scientist or some guy from a company...justi make sure they no wat they are doing. I messed up my USBs by having a short in my keyboard. it tells me to plug in my controler but It wont read my controlers. theres a 92% chance its somthing wrong with my USB ports. I hope this helps you out.

Your USB ports on your computer are plug and play. If you have issues with your USB port, it is port related, driver related or device related. The following solutions will help you identify the problem to resolve your USB port issues.
To Identify a Working USB Port
Begin troubleshooting your USB ports by checking Device Manager to see if your USB ports or hubs are working properly.

  1. Click the Start button. ClickControl Panel.
  2. ClickSystem and Maintenance.
  3. ClickDevice Manager.
  4. Double-clickUniversal Serial Bus controllersand check to see if all your USB ports, hubs and controllers are functioning correctly. Any devices not functioning will have a yellow exclamation mark in front of them.
  5. If Device Manager shows any USB ports, hubs or controllers are not functioning, check for updated drivers.

To Update the USB Port Driver

An out-of-date BIOS driver can create issues with your system recognizing the USB port.
  • Watch a Video on Steps to Update Bios on Your Computer.
    1. When the update process is complete, your computer will restart again to load the operating system with the new driver version installed.

Yes I have, a known good one. I can connect to my laptop and the controller charges.

I bought a new controller that connects wirelessly via the USB port. When I plug in the USB adaptor, I get a green light briefly and then it goes out.

I have the same issue and you can do 2 things. go to videogame911.com or buy new usb ports and install them yourself. sony is way too much money for an easy fix.

My ps3 controller won't work turn on or charge

Check to see if your USB cable works. It coulb be that your USB cable dont work and since your your ps3 remote needs to be charged then when you connect it to charge nothing happens so try using a different USB cable to see if that works..

Controller won't link to the ps3 middle button just flashes as if its trying to connect. I have connected the tab coors but still nothing works.

Is the controller completely charged? If it is, then try this
1) Manually turn on your PS3 using the power button on the PS3.
2) Take your USB charger for your controller and plug it into the USB port. (Do NOT turn on your controller yet!)
3) Plug the controller into the charger that is connected to the PS3 USB port.
4) Now turn on your controller using the middle "PS" button.

The lights will flash for a few seconds, and that will sync your controller to that particular PS3 system. This might help :D

One of my usb ports on my ps3 slim stopped working

Your usb port might have stopped working, but you can still use it to charge other devices like phones, mp3,etc. However, if the damaged port cannot even charge a device, there is nothing you can do apart from managing the other ports. On the other hand, if the port can still charge devices but cannot detect them, you just have to manage the other hub, and use the damaged on to charge only, okay.

Hi our controllers wont charge on our playstation 3 console can you help

Are you charging it correctly? To charge the controller, you use the PS3 charge cable that should have come with the controller (it's a USB A to mini B cable). Plug the USB A end into any port on the PS3 console and plug the mini-USB B side into the PS3 controller. The controller will only charge if the console is on.

Are the USB slots on the PS3 busted? Try a different slot on the PS3 console, or try a known working controller/cable combination on the slot in question. Alternatively, you can use something that has a USB port on it to charge your controller (for example, a laptop or PC). Again you must make sure the device that is charging the controller is on.

If the problem was the PS3, you can send it in for repair (if under warranty, it's free; otherwise it's 150$ so it might be better to just deal with the broken USB port).

Maybe the cable is broken? Try another cable, if possible, with a USB slot and controller you know is working. If it is the cable you can get replacements for really cheap.

If you can confirm that it's none of the above, the problem is probably with the controller. The first thing you should try is resetting the controller. There's a small button on the back of the controller, near the L2 button. You'll need a paper clip, but just press that. Then try to use it/recharge it again.

If it still won't charge it's possible the controller is dead (as in the battery will no longer hold a charge). The best way to confirm this is to try and use your controller while it's plugged in (as if to charge it); if it works while plugged in, but stops when you unplug it then the battery has died. You can replace the battery yourself (there are instructions in the PS3 manual), or send in the controller to Sony for a replacement (assuming it's a first-party controller aka made by Sony). If you're under warranty it's free (first party peripherals are covered), otherwise they may still take it for a fee but I'm not sure.

Hope you're able to fix the problem!

My PS3 won't reconize any of my controllers, putting the cable in works, it find the controller, but when I unplug te cable the lights start blinking again and I can't use the controller, what to do?

Hmmm. It sounds like either your PS3's Bluetooth controller is on the fritz, or all of your controllers are on the fritz. Since I doubt ALL of your controllers are malfunctioning, I am betting it's your PS3. I suggest having a friend with a working controller stop by and test his controller against your PS3. IF your friend's controller works, then you know that the PS3's Bluetooth controller is working.

Second step is to check to see if the USB cable is transmitting a trickle charge to the controller. Again, using your friend's controller (make sure he brings his own USB cable with him), try charging his controller with HIS cable first. If after 10 minutes of playing with the controller plugged into the PS3 via USB, you unplug it and the controller still works, then the problem is most likely your own USB cable (it's apparently damaged in some way). Now run down the controller's battery and try recharging it with YOUR USB cable. If it fails to charge, then you know that all you need is a new cable. Just in case, make sure you test EACH of your USB ports. A simple replacement will cost you around $10.

Otherwise, your PS3's UBS port(s) are not properly working and you should send in your PS3 for repairs. As stated above, test each of the USB ports on your PS3. My 60GB one has 4 USB ports, so I would test all 4 of them before sending in the PS3. Then, if you want it repaired, make notes of which port(s) is(are) malfunctioning and send it to an authorized PS3 repair center.

PS3 controller Problem

I just fixed mine. The controller itself needs to be reset. There is a reset button on the back of the controller, above the top right hand corner of the square with all on the information and barcode. Press it with a sharp tipped object while still connected to the PS3 via USB cable. Then press the PS button and you should be back on wirelessly.
