I have a whirlpool cabrio that i purchased about 1 yr ago and about 3 wks ago it gave me the F1 error code. It would only do it once at first then it would do it 3 times. Now it does not even run anymore. What deos the code mean, and how does it get fixed? Is there any way it can get fixed without having a tech come out an look at it?
Mine is doing the same thing...at the beginning of the wash cycle, I get an F1 error. It happens 3 or 4 times then it continues washing. It recently started up when the rinse cycle starts, too. All I have done is try a hard reboot by power cycling it, but it didn't work.Mine is doing the same thing...at the beginning of the wash cycle, I get an F1 error. "F1" is a primary control failure. This is an indication that the main machine control board has failed. The board is located on the right-hand side under the operator console. You can access it by removing the three screws in the back of the console and then lifting the console from the back towards the front of the washer. Make sure you UNPLUG the washer before opening the console. CAUTION: Use care when lifting the console off the cabinet. There are small interconnecting cables that connect the operator console to the control board that can be damaged if pulled too hard. The first thing you should do is perform a visual inspection to insure all the wires are connected and seated correctly. You can also try unplugging each connector one at a time and reseating them. Sometimes contacts can oxidize and not make good contact. If you attempt everything and the washer still does not run, you have a failed control board. If you wish to repair yourself, the board can be found at searspartsdirect.com. Just type in your model number (located under the lid along the rim of the wash tub opening) and you will find the part you need under the "Control Panel Parts" listing as item #1. The prices vary greatly between washer model versions, so make sure you have a COMPLETE model number when you type it in the search index. I hope this was helpful. If you own a Whirlpool Cabrio and are experiencing an F1 error, you're unable to finish or start a load of clothes. When the Whirlpool Cabrio displays an F1 error, this means the the control board is having difficulty communicating with the motor.
To fix your F1 error, you can first try to unplug your washing machine for 15 minutes and then plug it back in. If this doesn't work, you will need to replace the control board. The only tools that you need to replace the control board is a Phillips screw driver and a 1/4" hex head driver. Be sure to unplug the machine from the electrical outlet before performing any repairs.
After unplugging your Whirlpool Cabrio washer, carefully pull the washer away from the wall (Watch your drain hose and the two inlet hoses.) Next unscrew the 3 screws located on the back of the Whirlpool Cabrio. Next, take a picture or make note of where each plug connects to the control board. Next, unplug each plug and the pressure tube. Lastly, unscrew the 1/4 screw then remove control board. Replace with new control board and reverse your steps to install. The new board will fix the Whirlpool Cabrio F1 error.
Hi, The "F1" error code on the Whirlpool cabrio is quite common, and generally has to do with the control board. Replacing the control panel may resolve this issue. However, I believe Whirlpool is aware of the F1 issue with the Cabrio, and is fixing some machines for free. Please call 1-800-253-1301 for more details and see if you are eligible for a free repair. Thank you !!

There is a recall for the Cabrio F1 error code issue. I had mine fixed for free. They will have to replace the control board. You will need to call 1-800-253-1301 and tell them that your Cabrio washer is having the F1 error code and you read on the internet that Whirlpool has been making repairs. Have your model number, serial number, and purchase date ready for the person on the phone. The guy that repaired mine also replaced the washboard at the bottom for free...just ask the tech about it when he is there.
HELLO, Error code F1 indicates a control failure and most likely the machine control board will have to be replaced. Depending on when you purchased the machine, the board may be covered under extended component warranty.
I had the same F1 problem and they had to replace the control board and something relating to the balance. The tech told me this is a common problem.
