Hi bluemags,

It is true that you should use a higher power I.C., I do that all the time. However, the one to use is the STK392-120. This one is rated at 5 Amps unlike the STK392-110, 150, which are both rated at 3 Amps. I have not checked the data sheet on the 180. They are all OEM, since Sanyo designed them all. Beware of generic knockoffs not made by Sanyo. The generic I.C.s do not have the quality as the Sanyo originals.

Best Regards,

I would suggest to use the same because the original design works well with STK392-110, if you change them to use the one with higher power you will be forcing other components there to work a bit harder.
Try attaching a small 12 volts DC fan near or on the heatsink where the ICs are mounted.
Good Luck.

The switch is definately the way to go. I use the the 150 exclusively. Make sure you replace both IC's and for burned resistors around the IC's. Also look around the ic's to make sure all solder connections are good.

Look for OEM ic's from Electronica. Very reputable and very reasonable. Tell them you were referred by A 1 in Denver.

There are 3 distinct color lines and the picture looks 3d. The lines are bowed and trying to adjust using the convergence grid doesn't work- the grid is bowed

Mitsubishis are notorious for bad solder connections on the convergence IC's. These are located on the big heat sinks on the main board. It's an easy fix if you know how to solder. Check for any play on the IC's when "wiggled".

Yellow and blue shadowing, double image

It a 100% convergence problems.Convergence problems very easy diagnose. The picture look like 3D,colors lines don't lines up.Fuzzy, out of focus.Convergence controls don't work to lines up any colors cross.
WS-55511 uses a single convergence IC chip---a STK-393-110.
IF convergence is off and will not adjust it needs along with any of the 3.9 ohm resistors that protect it to be replaced.
What happens in these and most projection sets is the chip is mounted on a large metal heat sink with fins to keep it cool----a white grease is applied to the back of the chip to quickly transfer heat--after some years the grease dries out from the heat and the chip fails.
Considering you can buy the IC on Ebay for about 14 dollars plus shipping (I can tell you the best seller there to look for) if you or someone you know can do the repair you can save the set and a LOT of money.
Most shops are going to get 200-300 for this repair

Red Green Blue jets appear to be off. Double images and shadows instead of a clear picture. Looks like 3D without the glasses.

You have a common problem.

This model (WS55511) uses a single convergence chip and after 5-8 years it fails. I will attach a photo of what the chip looks like and also a typical convergence problem.

I have fixed hundreds of these sets with this problem.
If you are handy or know someone who is I have available step by step, start to finish instructions for this repair in this model set.

They tell you everything you will need and how to do it from beginning to end.

Parts cost (On EBAY) is about 14 dollars for the chip plus shipping.

Let me know if you want the instructions and I will post them here for you to copy/paste.

The picture is showing a double image and is distored.

The problem you are refering to is more than likely a convergence problem. The convergence circuit in your tv is controlled by an IC (integrated circuit) stk392-110 and it makes the 3 colors (red, blue, green) line up/converge together to create a clear picture. You'll know when this part needs to be replaced because the picture you see is 3d looking and possibly bowed on the top or bottom or on the sides in any or all 3 colors.
