I have Akai authorized repair center coming this week - will notify all what they find - To find authorized repair center call Akai customer service 1-888-697-2247 . Their customer service seems pretty good and - THEY SPEAK ENGLISH !!!!! Repair people I spoke to said if he had to guess, it sounds like convergence module ($400 part - still cheaper than replacing entire tv) . Will post the final results. If you're using a DVD player or other component using the Component cable hookup, try unplugging that from the mix, unplug the power cord for the TV from the wall and wait 15 seconds and plug it back in, then power the TV back on. Mine used to do this and I gave up on the component cable option and went back to composite (RCA).

On the power supply board is a tyrisitor and high voltage capacitors 2k most of the time Poor Solder Connection right where AC line connects, you will see it on that board.
Resolder everything and set should come on.
on the main board of the tv there is a fuse located if that is faulty this can happen, there are also many other possibilities but check out the fuse first many a times replacing the fuse solves the problem
as its very negligible to replace the fuse the cost of fuse is under $1.
Replace shorted Q431,can use a 2sc3998, open r448 .47ohm resistor. after you get set on beware of convergence ic's may have been shorted causing all the problems.Check r859 &r858 .47 ohm 1 wtt that supply - &+ 20 volts to convergence packs, if open replace packs & check low ohm resistors on convergence ,I found r2144 &r2145 open replaced & all systems go "good luck"
take it to a repair shop and have then look at it. it may or may not be worth the cost of the repair. i dont know what the parts and labor would be on it
I just got this tv free and it will stay on for 15-30 minutes and then turn off. Some times it will stay on all day, though, so its kind of weird. I have the 5499HD
I have one of these tv's with remote and user's manual, but the timer light blinks on powerup. If I cannot fix I will sell you the tv or the parts you need. Houston, TX.
