If you pull out crown gently, you will notice there are two clicks (positions), not just one. So the first click, when crown is not pulled out fully, is exactly for day/date adjustment. If you pull the crown further out, watch is in hand adjustment mode. Try it carefully and you will find out the right position.

i found out today how to do it.
it doesnt have a "quickset" function like that apparently they didnt become popular till the 80s.
the crown only has one click and you just have to wind it constantly between 6pm and 1am so the date clicks over and over, the day then winds back as you go from 12pm back to 9pm. a bit of a pain but it worked.
