I purchased my Microtek ScanMaker 3800 many years ago. I still have the installation CD. Recently I purchased an HP laptop running Vista. My question: is it all right to plug in the scanner directly into the laptop first, with the USB cable, or do I need to run the CD first?

  • Anonymous Jan 13, 2010

I plugged in the scanner, then inserted the CD when prompted.

    I got the following message:

Windows was unable to install you ScanMaker 3800.

Windows could not find driver software for your device.

If you know the manufacturer of your device, you caqn visit its website and check the support section for driver software.

First connect your scanner to computer with usb cable.
Then insert disk in rom then install driver and software from disk.
It is not matter that first you connect scanner or install driver but if you connect scanner first your computer recognized it then you can install driver from disk.
Let me know if you need further assistance.
