My GE dishwasher drains fine after wash cycles. However, After rinsing, about 2 inches of water is left in the tub. The drain runs for 30-35 seconds at the end of each wash cycle, but only 4-5 seconds after the rinse. What do I need to do to fix this?

My GE Triton dishwasher has a drainage issue. After any of the "washing" cycles, the drain pump runs for 30-35 seconds and the water in the tub is removed. However, after the "rinse cycle" the drain pump only runs for 2-4 seconds and 2 inches or so of water is left in the tub when the cylce is complete. I have cleaned all the filters and checked the high drain for clogs. What else can I do? Is there a timer for the pump that may be amlfunctioning during the rinse cycle? Thank you in advance for your help.

The tech that came out said my dishwasher has two (2) pumps and the one that controls the rinse cycle drain was malfunctioning. They wanted $600 to fix it....so I bought a new one. Thanks for your help.

Many dishwashers use a drain valve with an electric solenoid. When electricity flows to the solenoid, the valve opens and diverts the water to the drain. Sometimes the solenoid, or the diverting lever, sticks and prevents the dishwasher from draining or filling properly. Try to free up the solenoid to lubricate the lever. Otherwise, you may have to replace the solenoid or pump assembly. With these systems, the motor always rotates in one direction. When it's energized, the drain valve diverts the water.if there is problem with above process anywhere some water will be left out.-------
This will help. Thanks please keep updated.please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Dishwasher not draining properly or not draining at all issues can arise due to different reasons. Usually, these issues are related to kinked hoses, knocked out disposer unit (if connected with the dishwasher drain hose) & clogged drain pump & filter. Also note that dishwashers do not drain completely after a finished cycle and this is normal. Dishwashers are designed to leave some water in the unit to ensure that the heating element doesn’t overheat. If you suddenly begin to experience a large amount of water being retained in your dishwasher, you have a problem. Some of the most common reasons include that the drain hose isn’t working properly, the drain pump isn’t working correctly, or possibly there is a plumbing problem in your home’s drain lines.

First check whether the drain is not clogged or blocked and the line is not kinked. Check all the hoses for blockages & also clean the air gap. Has the disposer been replaced recently? If so, chances are the knockout is still in place. Simply remove the drain hose from the disposer, and knock out the plug. If the disposer has not been replaced, try removing the drain hose from the disposer and use a wet-dry vacuum (prepared for water, of course) to **** any water (and hopefully anything else) from the drain line. Then reconnect the hose, and test the unit. If you have checked the air gap and the drain hose and can’t locate the problem, then it is an issue with the drain pump of the dishwasher.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

Most of the time its a bad piston valve.inside and in the back of the dishwasher there is a filter with four screws holding it in,remove them and lift it out. in the middle is a hole and a valve ***. that you can unscrew. remove it and look at it is the rubber rotted out? if so replace it. what happens is when it goes into rinse cycles the worn out valve allows water to come back into the machine.good luck!

How to drain

The wash cycle starts with the pump running to drain residual water from the tub. Make sure your drain is clear before starting each cycle. I run my garbage disposal with water on for a few seconds before starting the DW. If I don't it won't drain properly with food waste in the disposer basket. You may also need to pull and rinse your drain sump screen (front right corner). Just snap it out and rinse. If your machine doesn't power up at all you'll need to use a sponge to drain the tub

Washer WPSR3100WOWW Will wash but not drain and spin... Stops at the rinse Cycle

Christina,
Does it leave water inside the tub? There are a couple of possibilitys. One could be the drain pump. If this fails the wash/rinse cycle will stop as it can sense the water not being pumped out. Can you hear the light sound of a small motot running when it goes into rinse cycle? Listen down at the very bottom far right side or far left side. If you hear the drain pump motor running is there any water discharging out the drain tube going into the wall? You should easily hear the flowing water. If not you have a few possible problems: Drain pump has an obstruction in or around it or, drain pump is actually bad.

Miele Dishwasher G841 - Water not draining after wash cycle

If you suspect the dish washer, try discharging the drain in a bucket. After the drain cycle check the wash tub. If water is still left, you have to clean the drain filter attached to the bottom. Refer user guide.

The final drain end of the dish washer where you discharge, the fixing junction has to be cleaned, incase it is clogged.

Water does not drain out

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

There is always just a minimal amount of water in the bottom of a dishwasher so that the pump seal does not dry out causing water to run through the pump motor. Usually though it is not visible yet is is possible.

Excess water in the bottom of the tub post cycle are a sign of draining problems however this is a list of what it could be.

1. A partially clogged drain
2. The timer motor is not functioning properly
3. A broken or worn pump impeller
4. Clogged wash arm holes.

Here is what you need to do:

Check your entire drain system. Start at the final outlet and work your way backward to the motor pump connection on the dishwasher.

Suspected areas are.

a. The sink connection outlet is clogged (this can be inside a garbage disposal.

b. The air-gap is clogged in the very top part of the air-gap (Usually located on the back of the sink and is around 3 inches tall) Remove the cover, unscrew the top nut and check under the horse shoe bend inside the plastic top for obstructions. Clean as needed)

c. There is debris on top of the the motor pump housing blocking the inlet drain. (This would be inside the housing of the lower wash arm on the very bottom)

d. The motor pump outlet drain port is partially blocked. (only accessable from the motor pump exit hole after drain hose removal.)

A partially blocked inlet tub drain to the motor pump would also explain why the lower part of the dishes are not getting clean. Additionally you would have spotted dishes post cycle.

When the drain is partially blocked some models use the float level switch in the tub to control the advancement of the timer. If the water does not drain the motor pump continues to run and run and the cycle does not advance until the tub is drained and the float switch senses same. i.e extended cycle
Check under the float assy for debris.

One more thing to check is the lower wash arm holes for debris or obstructions. If the wash arm is retaining water it can drip out after a drain cycle and cause the puddling you noticed.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Dishwasher stopped draining after cycle

Some water always remains in the bottom of the DW (al least with most DW) but here is some help....

GE dishwashers will have a sump entrance screen ( #4 ) that should be removed and checked for any gookus, see 1 or 2 screws on the cover top, which is behind the lower spray arm. Almost all ( some newer GE dishwashers have a separate drain pump and motor - but for our purpose, we will talk about the most common GE dishwashers ) GE dishwashers have a drain solenoid ( #1 ) that can fail and stop the draining. If the solenoid cannot pull in the silver plunger, the drain port will not open to allow the motor and pump assembly to drain the water out. The solenoid can be ohmed with an ohm meter for continuity, or tested to see if it is receiving 110-120 volts AC. Many GE dishwashers have a self clean filter ( #3 ) inside at the back. The draining water must pass through a plunger in the self clean filter body. This can get clogged up, or the plunger may twist and distort and not allow the draining water to get past. The filter can be removed from the inside and the plunger will twist out of the self cleaning body for testing/checking. Next obstacle for the draining water in the back flush valve ( #2 ). This valve can twist or distort and block the water flow as well. The drain port will need to be accessed to check this flapper valve, the drain port will untwist from the self clean filter body. All hoses in-between the items mentioned above and the drain hose itself all the way to the house plumbing should be checked for restrictions.

Some extra filter, draining tips and pictures....

During the wash and rinse modes of the cycle, soiled water falls down the back of the tub and into the filter area. The water comes through the filter and back into the tub. During the wash and rinse periods all ( we hope! ) the water will pass through the filter. The soil will settle into the collection chamber and is held there. When the dishwasher goes into the pump out mode the water in the sump is pumped through the collection chamber. This closes the piston valve to the inside of the tub. The pump flushes the collection chamber of all the food soil and pumps it down the drain. A check valve is located in the drain line port. This valve allows the water to flow in the drain direction only and prevents the water from coming back into the tub. The drain line check valve must close in the back flow direction or the piston valve in the collection chamber may not reopen into the tub after the pump out is complete. Water should "fall" through the filter and go back into the tub....the heavier food particles go down into the chamber and are collected.

Here is a link for you to check out...I have all this info in my data base but since it is in PDF format it does not translate well to this format...

I hope this helps...good luck and ggod day...please rate my effort......thanks....The Fang.

Look at the timer to see if the contacts have finally worn off. The circuit board may have failed too.

GE Nautilus won't drain after Rinse Cycle

Check disposer plug. If a garbage disposer has been recently installed, it is possible the disposer drain plug was not removed. The drain plug is a plastic piece in the disposer that blocks the hole where the dishwasher hose connects. Also check the hose connected to the disposal. Mine apparently had a kink in it. When I straightened the hose the dishwasher drained at full speed (I recently had a plumber re-route a hot waterline. He must has bent the hose). Hope this helps. If not go to the GE website. That's where I found my answer.

Dishwasher doesn't drain

Greg, if the model number ends in GO1, your dishwasher has a piston nut assy. thats problably giving you the grief. If this assy. goes bad you will have water left in the tub at the end of the wash. A common GE problem. It's located under the filter screen in the back and just unscrews out. Part number is wd24x199. It's an easy fix. Look up the part on the net to get an idea of what it looks like. Catriver..post back.
