If you do not have a router you have to reboot the modem first, Modems pair with one device at a time using its MAC address, using a router allows you to add remove computers to your internet access without rebooting the router for every device because the modem pairs to the router and the router shares its internet with your other devices.
Your modem if it is a Speedstream 5200 does not have any wireless capability and as such, there is no need for a password. You can only use one computer connected with an ethernet cable to your computer. What you can do is purchase a wireless router, preferably a N series wireless router because it is stronger than a normal G series router. Normally your modem connects to your computer via the ethernet cable. With a wireless router, instead of plugging the modem to your computer you should plug it in router. From the router you can connect another ethernet cable and plug it in on your desktop. You can connect at least 4 wired computer to your router. For the wireless part, all they have to do is look for the strongest wireless signal then hit connect. If it ask for a password then it should be in the sticker at the side of the wireless router.
Can you please tell me is it a router or Ethernet card. If it's router I think no need the driver. Just connect the router to you PC in default network configuration. and type http://192.168.254.254 and press Enter. put Admin as default admin user name and Admin as default administrative password. then setup the necessary configuration.
if the pwr light is on, its not a pwr issue.
if the ethernet light is on you should be recieving a signal.
sometimes you may need to reset your modem and refresh everything in the case of pwr outages or unplugging etc.
i suggest calling your internet service provider and having them walk you through a manual reset of your modem
Look for a small reset button. It would typically be concealed in a small hole where it can be pressed with a paper clip. Try pressing the reset button for about 15 seconds, then release it. If this fails to reset to defaults, turn off the power...press the reset button....turn on the power while holding the reset button in...continue to hold the reset button for about 15 seconds.
Good luck...and I hope this is helpful!
