Our oven does not stay at temperature. If you turn on oven and set the temp at 350 the oven will continue to heat and go way above 350 degrees causing several burnt meals. Any idea on how to repair this? Also one burn on the stove won't ignite. Stove/Oven is 9 years old.....is it worth repairing or should we look at scrapping it?
If you have electronic controls, you'll need either the temperature probe (about $60.00) or the clock (about $150.00). You can test the temperature probe from behind the machine. It should read about 1080 ohms at room temperature. if the probe is good, replace the clock.
If you have mechanical oven controls, you need a new thermostat. Is the too high temp consistent? (i.e. runs at 375F +/- 25F?) If so, you can usually adjust the thermostat **** to read closer to the actual temperature.

I have a Tappan oven/range model no. 30-4942-00/02. when the oven is turned on it heats up to broiling even when the electronic temperature control is set for a lower temperature such as 350 degrees.
I have the same Tappan model with the exact same problem. I am curious if the solution supplied to Burntmeal's was accurate and has solved his problem. Is there a to acquire follow-up or feedback information?
