My Motorola surfboard SB5101E is totally dark with delays about approximately every 10 minutes, no power, no other light is on, and after about 10 minutes it starting to work again. I tried to switch the cable sockets, everywhere the same problem. I did modem reset to factory settings-nothing helps.

Have you registered this modem with your cable service?

Press the Standby button to reconnect Internet service. Check the coaxial cable at the modem and wall outlet. Check that the USB or Ethernet cable is attached at the modem and the computer. Try to reset the modem by unplugging the power cord from the modem and wait 1 to 2 minutes.

SOURCE: Switched to cable(arris modem) can't set up network

cable dsl same thing. Did you switch providers and get new modem from them? If so. Just delete previous netowrk and install new one let pc discover new one. Also, with your router you got a disc. It should install correctly. Perhaps it is previous network that is hindering you.

the owners users guide in the glove box covers this.

Netgear WGT624 V3 Wireless Router Problems by BigG2 - January 16, 2007 1:17 AM PST

Hi Guys/Gals,

My wireless connection is not working and i cannot log on to it, I have connected a Netgear WGT624 V3 Wireless Router to my Motorola SurfBoard SB5101E Modem which is connected to Telewest Cable Broadband (internet works fine if i access directly through the modem), on the router the power light is lit and also the internet light flashes rapidly but the wireless light comes on for a couple of
seconds and then goes out - i think this is the problem? I have tried logging on to the router to check the wireless settings but cannot access it, i have also tried connecting directly via LAN but cannot get this to work either although i am not sure if i have connected it correctly?

Any ideas/comments/advice is very much appreciated!!

Thanks in advance,

I want to plug in another wireless router into my surfboard modem and have the wireless router work as well as the surfboard. Is there a way to do this successfully?

Yes this is possiable. First you need to unplug the power to the Motorola and the new router. Second connect the ethernet cable from the Motorola to the internet port on your second router. This port may be colored in yellow, marked as modem, or the ethernet port by its self. Third connect a ethernet cable from the new router to a desktop or laptop this is only to configure the new router. Next power on the Motorola and wait for the online light to become solid. Then plug in the power to the new router. Give the router about two minutes to obtain ip address from the motorola then try to get on the internet with the pc connected with the ethernet cable. Now you can run the new router setup cd on the wired pc to setup router. Once completed remove ethernet cable to the pc and connect to either network you have and you are good to go. Any questions just ask.

Need new ip and mac adress for sb5100 motorola for southwest

To get new IP unplugg power for 1 minutes the plug the power back in. MAC address is a unique identifier specific to that modem. To get a new MAC address you will have to buy a new modem.

Dear forum-freinds, I have Motorola cable modem type SB5101E. From a month ago up to now I can't use my cable Internet because it's been dropping connection after 5-9 minutes after restart. Nothing happens...

Hi,
If you say the lights are going out on the modem when it boots you off the network then the problem is your modem and not your internet connection, if the modem is new take it back and have them swap it for another one.

Dark display about 1h. when swicth on.help me pls.........

I'm going through the same thing with a Dell 1905FP - it has 3 bulging capacitors on the Power Supply/Inverter board, and I suspect they are the culprits. At first it delayed a few seconds to start (green power light flashing in all situation), then it took about 10 minutes, then delayed about 45 minutes, then went all the way to about 6 hours - all within a week. When it did come up after the delay, it was perfect. Now it won't come up at all....

It's out of warranty, Dell will have nothing to do with replacing this common failing board, and the replacement board is $50 from an online LCD repair shop.

I'm trying the capacitor replacement tomorrow - they're about 25 cents each... it's worth a try.

Internet and modem light won't light up

Try disconnecting the power from the cable modem - wait about 10 seconds then reconnect the power. It may take a few minutes to reconnect depending on your provider but sometimes cable modems get "frozen" and need to be power cycled.

If you are using a motorola surfboard modem make sure that you do not press the button on the top of the modem whn you are reconnecting the power cord because it is designed to turn off the internet connection for security purposes.
