2001 Ford Ranger with the 3.0 MFI V6 using antifreeze. I can't tell where its coming from, and it isn't a huge leak or anything that you would see a puddle or anything major. I am thinking it may be a head gasket because my mileage did decrease since i have been having problems. Please help.
You have to pressurize the cooling system. once you have pressure in system if it holds you can remove spark plugs until you see it effect the pressure gauge then you will know for sure if its going into cylinders and being burned as you drive. other way that sometimes works is to remove radiator cap and look for bubbles coming up,giving indication of compression in coolant. all tool trucks sell a head gasket testing kit that reads the gas in your radiator but it cost about 70 dollars . that is the most accurate way besides constant white smoke out of your tail pipe .
