Ours was doing the same, no beep and the "mute" on the display despite having no mute button. Also, the surface light and fan had recently stopped working even though the buttons worked. Unplugging it did the trick! Maybe it's running Windows?!

From what you have described, it appears that the microwave oven works fine, except that the beeper doesn't work like it used to.

This could be caused by a couple of things.

First, there is typically a piezo electric speaker that creates the "beeping" sound. It's possible that this part has failed. It's a mechanical device and can break. This part is relatively inexpensive.

The piezo speaker is controlled by the microprocessor board. It's possible that there is a problem with one of the output lines from the microprocessor that is tied to the speaker.

One way to determine which part is defective, is to try connecting another speaker in parallel across the original speaker, or remove the original and try the replacement (least expensive method).

If there still is no sound, then I would suspect the problem is on the microprocessor board. (most expensive method).

If I can be of further assistance to you, please let me know.

Good Luck!
- Jim

My Avanti microwave keeps beeping nonstop.

Hi.

To mute your microwave, start by checking the control panel. Look closely. The mute function may be labeled as a secondary function of one of the standard buttons. Check these things first:
  • Look for a Sound button. Seriously. It may have been there all along, begging you to press it.
  • Press and hold either 1 or 0. Sometimes manufacturers give these keys hidden, secondary functions.
  • Press and hold the Stop or Cancel button. Like 1 or 0, this key might have a hidden function when held.
Often, pressing and holding 1, 0, Stop or Cancel will either result in turning off the beeping sounds or activating a child lock feature. (Child lock doesn't actually lock the door, but instead locks the control panel so no buttons can be pressed until the lock is removed by holding the button for around three seconds again.)
If none of these work, it's probably best to consult the manual. Even if you don't have a Sound button, there is no Mute function denoted as a secondary function or holding a button doesn't do anything, there is still a chance a mute function exists. It could be a button combination or, like on some microwaves, be buried in a submenu that's not at all obvious how to activate.
If you've tossed the owner's manual to your microwave, check the manufacturer's website. They will often provide a digital version of the manual as a PDF for more recent models. For an older model, you may need to do some digging, but a great start is to just do a Google search for "[microwave brand and model number] manual."
Once you have the PDF version of the manual, press Ctrl + F on Windows or Command + F on Mac to search the PDF for "mute," "sound" or "beep."

Good luck.

If you try to heat something for a minute , the microwave will turn on for about 15 seconds then shut off . It doesn't even seem to warm the food.

It may need a reset. You can do that by unplugging the power for a minute or two, then plugging it back in and setting the clock.

If it still fails, you may have a failing cooling fan or a problem on the control circuit board.

Runs but does not heat

The magnetron (the part that heats the food) may be bad or the circuitry to the magnetron may have burned out. Basically my advice is that if you have no electrical expertise, it isn't worth fixing. The magnetron if bad, costs almost as much as a new microwave. If you open it up (make sure it has been unplugged for a few hours and don't seen any obvious burnt parts (including a fuse and the diodes), then most likely the magnetron is done and a new microwave is the way to go.

Let me know how this works out for you.
