SCRATCHED STAINLESS STEEL SINK

I just bought a stainless steel sink and haven't even used it yet even though it was installed a month an half ago. I need to finish the kitchen before I use any of the appliances. I had an electrician putting in recess lighting and I think he might of dropped a cut wire from above the sink and it feel and scratched the interior side of the sink. It is sort of deep I see a brownish color underneath not silver. I polished it with stainless steel cleaner and nothing happens and when I rub my finger over it you can feel it not like an ordinary surface scratch you really just see it not feel it. I do not really want to attempt anything drastic myself and would gladly pay someone to fix it but I can not find any company in southern CT, Stamford, Norwalk, Darien or any surronding areas that advertise fixing stainless steel in sinks. How do I find someone that will be able to get rid of the deep scratch it is a undermount sink. Thank you.

That's not good that the scratch is so deep that you see a brown color under the silver. My stainless steel fridge recently got a big scratch on it. It's ugly but less serious than yours. I think that we'll both have to find someone who repairs these types of scratches.https://stainlessrefinishing.com/service...

Scratch-B-Gone is the product you are looking for... it takes out scratche, scuffs, stains and it seems, anything else that can happen to stainless steel... it worked great on my fridge and sink. If its a true scratch it can come out and you dont have to do the whole thing.

Have you tried a really fine steel wool? I don't know if this would work. I have stainless steel farmhouse sink, front exposed all stainless steel. My contractor scratched it up horribly when he was putting it into the kichen. he fixed it amazingly with a fine steel wool pad. I don't know if your scratch is too deep for that but it couldn't hurt. The scratches on our sink were surface but very noticeable. Hope this helps.

Try contacting Prime Time Solutions 1-800-333-9525. They have products for all sorts of problems with stainless steel sinks. I called there with my "scratch" problem & their representative, Elaine, who is very knowledgeable, gave me a couple of avenues to take. She even sent me a free small sample of Flitz to try. I liked the product so much I ordered some from her.

Is there a stainless steel or cast iron replacement sink for Americast 7172?

I recommend an Elkay stainless steel sink. The drain is not offset the way the Americast drain is, but that shouldn't be a problem. Celebrity is the name of their basic line but it is not a cheapo sink. It comes in depths of 7", 10", and 12". The 10" and 12" deep ones are special order. They also have the Pacemaker, and the Lustertone, which is their top line sink.
I don't care for cast iron sinks as they sometimes bleed rust through the caulk, get scratched, and quickly lose ther gloss.

I have a stainless steel sink in my RV. When it was stored for the winter, I used FRI-Z-AIR containers to absorb moisture. Some of the crystals spilled into the sink and actually etched spots into the sink...

I would try SOS pads or even fine sandpaper if necessary. Make sure you go with the "grain" so it isn't obvious afterward. It is possible to blend with those grain lines in stainless steel, we used to do it in a factory.

Stainless Steel Sink Question

s with most things, your stainless steel sink WILL scratch with use. However, over time as the sink ages, scratches will become less apparent and in fact blend into the surface. Minor scratches on the inside surfaces of the bowl may be blended into the sink by lightly rubbing a Scotchbrite pad in the direction of the finish grain. Be sure to rinse thoroughly with water and towel dry after this procedure, removing any particles left over from the Scotchbrite as you rinse.
