Your thought that the end of something fell into the lighter fried something is likely true. I can't imagine that the wire could be fried and the fuse is still good. check to see if the fuse you checked was the right one. If it was and it is good, a wire on the back of the receptacle may have come lose. The end that fell into the receptacle, did it get hot or damaged? That could be a clue as to if the receptacle was shorted when the end fell into it or if not, then look for a lose connection.

The fuse for the lighter won't be 30 amps capacity. Look for the fuse box inside the car where they are labeled lighter, dash lights, dome lights etc. The owner's manual index for "fuses" often gives the location of the fuses and a diagram of which circuits they protect.
I'm still leaning toward a fuse. Good luck.

I'm trying to find the cigarette lighter fuse for a 2000 Grand Marquis

The socket is called a power point, it is not a cigar lighter. You can find the location of the fuse in the owner's in the "Roadside Emergencies" section. Here is link to the manual, it is a Crown Victoria which is the same car, the Grand Marquis manuals are no longer published from Ford. http://www.fordservicecontent.com/Ford_Content/Catalog/owner_information/2000-CrownVicotria-version-2_om_EN-US_12_1999.pdf

2003 grand marquis ls - an attempted nys inspection failed due to the "DLC" not having any power to it (the computer connector under the dash by the steering wheel)......is this a common problem? how is it...

double check your cigarette lighter and or power outlet.your ob2 connector is powerd off of that circuit normally.you can take a test light and manually check for a 12 referance at the connector my simply sticking the end of the test light into the terminals on the connector and see if it lights up

Radio won't come on.Already changed the fuse now the cigarette lighter works but still no radio. This model does have the Amp in the trunk.Should I look for a fuse there ??

I have a feeling that you check and changed the wrong fuse. The cigarette lighter is on a totally different circuit and that's why I think that, Not sure if you have a blown fuse for the radio but I can tell you that the fuse for the lighter is in the number 16 position and the radio is in the number 11 position (diagram of layout below). I hope this helps you and good luck.

I need a picture of the fuse box for a 96 Grand Marquis LS so I can change the fuse for my cigarette lighter. Can you help me?

i do not have a picture of , fuse box, but you dont need one. Check on the left lower dash, right by the parking brake handle for a little black door, open it, and check every single fuse in order to find the broken one. Make sure that ignition is OFF, and that you replace fuse with one of the same value and color. Th lighter is interconnected with other accesories, so if the fuse is really shorted, you must have lost some lights, radio or other accessories as well. If you find no broken fuses, then the lighter itself might have bent contacts that render it unusable.

Cigarette lighter doesn't work in my 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis

sounds like the lighter itself is bad because the fuse for the lighter is the same as the fuse for the connecter in which the inspection machine plugs in to.
