Dark pic on screen, unable to correct with regular means.

We just received a free Mitsubishi WS-55809 rear projection tv and everything works fine except the picture is not very crisp and it's dark. We have tried to manually fix the darkness but that didn't help. Any ideas?

sorry...it's not that model...it's a Mitsubishi VS-5061 and by free I mean someone gave it to us..(they bought a flat screen) but the color is off and the pic is kind of dark..just trying to figure out what might be the cause and if it's something we can fix ourselves...thanx.

    "Redefine free"

Seriously, there are high voltages problems which will require a qualified technician to repair. Do NOT try to open this set yourself. There are LETHAL voltages inside which can persist for WEEKS after the set is unplugged.

MITSUBISHI WS55809 Blue Screen

I'm not clear on this. When does it show a blue screen? When you have it in HDTV mode? A Blue Screen means it's not getting a signal (or the signal is very weak, resulting in more static than picture). If it is a blue screen for HDTV, how are you sure the HDTV receiver is working? If you can answer those questions for me, I should be able to track down the problem. I'm not sure which direction to go yet.

My Mitsubishi ws-55809 works fine although the screen turn pink but the picture is still visible. After a while it goes back to perfect color. Then it repeats this back and forth. Sometimes it will fl

Problem is likely on the small circuit board that plugs onto the bottom of the red picture tube---be careful as dangerous voltages in and around that board---each of the three picture tubes has a small board that plugs on the end of the tube.

Color changing while viewing

Sounds like your TV needs new convergence chips.

Go to this web site.

If you can handle a soldering iron and solder fairly well, then you can do the repair.

Hope this helps.

WS-B55. HDTV Receiver. Suggestions

Have to call DTV and find out if it is worth it. My rear projection TV was built in August 2002. It works very well and with the "digital" image that comes with the provider reception is very good.
