" 401 unauthorized" authorization required " .This message means the user name and password for the router is not correct. the default password of the Linksys router is admin with no user name ( leave it blank )
If the default password is not working then the router password must be changed.
If you don't know the password of the router then you will need to reset and reconfigure the router.
Once you reset the router , it will come back to the factory default settings.

" 401 unauthorised " is the error message i

No, but you can just reset the whole router and start from scratch. Hold the reset button on the rear of the router for 60 seconds and your will restore the unit to defaults, at which point you just need to reconfigure all of your configuration settings and password, as well as your wireless access code. Let me know if you require any additional assistance.

I have a linksys wrt54G, I am trying to log into the Router to change the security settings by using "192.168.1.1" which has always given me the prompt for Username and Password. It is no longer giving me...

You can try to change the browser settings.

1. If you're using Internet Explorer, click on the Tools tab
2. Click Internet Options
3. Click on the Security Tab, then under security level for this zone , set it to medium or low. Hit apply
4. Click on Custom Level , scroll all the way down and on User Authentication, set it to prompt for username and password. Click OK.

401 Authorization Error when accessing a Web-based Utility

Getting the 401 Authorization Required error page means that you tried to access a Setup page and entered an invalid password three (3) times. To reset the password, the device must be reset to factory default settings. Resetting the device: 1. Hold in the Reset button (usually located on the front or back panel) for 30 seconds. 2. Unplug the power cord to the device and wait for 1 minute. 3. Plug the power cord back into the device. 4. This will restore the device's default settings, which includes a default password of admin. 5. You can now try to access the Setup page again. Accessing the Setup Page: Open a Web Browser (either Internet Explorer or Netscape). Type the IP Address of the device into the Address Bar and press [Enter]. 1. The User Name and Password Prompt will appear. 2. Leave the User Name Field blank. 3. Type in the Router?s Password, admin, (the default Password). 4. Click OK or press the [Enter] key. If the device was reset to factory settings, the password of admin should be valid and the Setup page should load. If not, repeat steps to reset the device.
