I saw that suggestion on another page, but I cannot find anything at all that remotely resembles what "switch' might be being referred to

  • charliemcc Nov 02, 2008

I have the same problem. I think that the top cover was left open for a few days and then ever since the "cover open" message displays and it will not print. I have searched everywhere for some switching mechanism that could be faulty/broken but can find nothing.

I'd say maybe the switchs is broken and your machine reminds me of a lexmark fault. Look for the cover switch, under lid on base, at rear, small hole, find the switch that get's activated when openning and closing the top, maybe it is missing, or broken.

link to lexmark fault, that I think you will find your answer.

I have a Lexmark X6570 All In One Wi-Fi model. Just had the problem where I went to print and received an error message saying that the cover was open (when it wasn't). I noticed that the back right hand corner had slightly popped out of place for no apparent reason. Tried to push it back into place with no luck.

Here's what happened and how to fix it:
There are two plastic hinges at the back of the 6500 series printers that allow the top cover to open for access to the ink cartridge carriage. The lower ends of the hinges are cylindrical shaped and each contains a very stiff steel spring inside. They are designed to prop the cover of the printer up and hold it open when opened. As the plastic material ages, it may weaken and the tension of the internal spring may break the round end of the hinge off. This causes the printer cover to not fully close (even though it may appear so). There is a switch in the main printer body that detects when the top cover it open (even partially), and the printer won't work in this condition.

To fix this, open the top cover and carefully disconnect the 3 wire harnesses and the ribbon cable that run from the top cover to the base of the printer. Then remove the 'paper jam' hatch cover from the back of the printer. There are two phillips screws on the back panel of the pinter (one is located behind the paper jam hatch cover). Remove these screws (they secure the plastic hinges in place). You should now be able to lift the complete top cover/ scanner table assembly off the rest of the printer. Look for a steel spring about 3 inches long...remove this along with the round base of the hinge which may have broken off and remained down inside the printer. Glue this piece back onto the end of the hinge, but leave the spring out. Now reassemble the printer in the reverse order of disassembly and you should be good to go. Note that the top cover of the printer will not stay propped open on it's own with the spring removed, but this is not really an issue.

I am not sure if new replacement hinges are readily available from Lexmark or other sources.

I have a Lexmark P4350, I put a new 33 color ink cartidge in and it does not reconize it and has an Error 1102

The 1102 error message is caused by a communication failure between one of the printheads (cartridges) and the All-In-One (AIO).

Power off the AIO and remove the power supply from the back of the unit. Wait 30 seconds, then reinsert the power supply and power the AIO back on.

>> if its jammed ,, then free it..
(mine was stuck into dont know wht, and i freed it, and all is fine)

>> if spring adjusment is wrong, correst it(you may get idea by moving it again n again, whether it comes bbacl to its orgignal position or not...

> remore the tonor cartidge and insert it back while looking on the lever movements.... and you ll get whats the matter with it..

PLEASE note it,,, that i think,, the sensors are NEVER damaged !!! mind it.....my knowlegde says , sensors are hardly damaged ..

Error mesage

No solution, but I have the same problem. THe printer starts up fine, I hear no grinding noises or other "funny" nioses, and then displays no error message... UNTIL I ask it to print. Then I get a message that says, "Pls (please) Open Cover".

I open the cover and it says "Please Close Cover".

I close the cover and it says, "Please Open Cover"

and this happens forever!

Does anyone have any ideas? Can anyone help me?

Canon iP 3300 printer service error 6502

CANON PIXMA IX IP 4000 - error 5100 and error 6502

While testing the printer the cover must be closed!
So if you have a CISS in your printer you have to close the cover after replacinq cartridge because after that
replacinq the printer is testinq the cartridges also with the blinkinq LEDS which are installed on the ink's!
There is a light LED sensor under the cover which detects the blinking.
So if you have destroyed the LED on chips or if you covered them with glue OR if you will leave the cover opened
and press cover-open detection button with a pen (then the day ambient light will come inside to cover)
you will get an error 6502 or error 5100. I think that the same error will come with all printers which use
CLI8 CLI-8 cartridges.
Remebre that the blinking led have to be clean and blink after installing new cartidge.

Other reason is that you mixed the chips ang give i.e. chip from yellow to blue and blue to i.e.red. and black to yello etc etc. (YOU MIXED THEM :) )
I hope it will help

Printer cover open error message

I had that problem too.

Unplug the printer.
Hold the printer cover open while you plug in the printer.
Then wait for the printer to power on while still holding the cover open.
Then close the cover.
The buttons should work and th error message should be gone.

It worked for me.
