JVC tv "stuck" on sleep timer

I dont kniow how, but my 2yr old son has "stuck" my JVC tv in what i can only call sleep timer mode.
The tv is at least 8-10 yrs old and now It wont return to regular tv mode. The sleep timer LED is on and if i Unplug it it will try to fire back to reg. mode but then reverts to sleep mode with a blacl screen.
I tried leaving it unplugged overnight to wipe the internal memory. But to no avail. Im guessing the thing is just old and screwed but im hopeing there is still hope for my TV yet.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated as i Cannot afford a new TV :(
thanx.

I have a JVC also, about the same age. It's been stuck in sleeptimer for some time and we've tried to reprogram it w/ the remote, unplugged it, etc and nothing seems to work. I think JVC has preprogrammed their TVs to self destruct! We didn't "do" anything to cause this problem; it just happened. Should we cart it to the curb? As soon as you turn it on you get a brief picture/sound, then it turns off. The remote is useless. (yes, I put new batteries in it)

I think you would have to turn off the sleep timer mode completely or increase its ON time span, say to 4 hours or so
or the lenth of time you have the TV on for. If that does not fix it then it sounds like a STANDBY MODE fault problem.
Hope this helps.

When you turn off the TV and turn it on again, [Sleep Timer] is reset to [Off].

Blinking Timer Button

The tv must of turned on the timer by itself. They do do that sometimes. I suggest leaving it unplugged for 24 hours to reset itself.
If problem persists, you may be able to go to your menu and access the sleep mode timer and set it to 0:00 or OFF

How to turn the sleep timer off

You obviously don't have a menu button on the set itself. Unplug the unit and remove the back cover, this should expose the info you need unless it was placed on the outside and is now lost. Without TV model it will be difficult to get any helpful assistance. Good luck.

Since you have the manual, find the setup section for it and turn it off.
