I have a Kitchenaide KSSS42QKB000 built in fridge...it is coming on and everything is running, compressor, evap fan, cond fan etc... the controls are set to -10 in freezer and +38 in the fridge abd the "Max Cool" engaged. After 30 min. or so, the system shuts down and the "Over Temp" light is lit. All power comes back on when reset. The "Call Service" light is NOT lit at any time... I really, really need a service manual for this unit...Help !! Step by step diagnostics would be great if no manual. I am having a hard time testing anything as it is 15F here now and all electronic sensors seem to think it is fine. I am trying to move into shop now, but with all refer on top it is over 7' tall....

Evap fan runs constantly

The fan should run when the compressor runs.

Refrigerator wont get cold

If compressor is running check and make sure your cond. fan and evap fan are running. Also check in freezer and make sure evap. coil is not covered in ice. Also clean your condenser coil. You could be low on refrigerant. There are quite a few things to check.

My GE GSL 25JFPABS Refrigerator failed yesterday. No Comressor no evap or condensor fan

Fan motor starts with the compressor. Sounds like you need a main board and condenser fan motor. Call GE. It might be covered under warranty. A known issue with certain models. You will also need serial # if you call.

No cooling or compressor operation

Compressor and evap fan cycling are controlled by a circuit board as well as the defrost. It is all in serie - once your defrost kicks in contact is cut from the evap fan and compressor - once defrost is finished the switch reverts back to normal operation and your evap fan & compressor turns on.

Most common causes of this issue is either a defrost timer fault or control board (burnt resistor or bad board).

Inspecting and changing the control board will usually fix the issue - if your evap fan comes on after changing the board but not the compressor then you have a bad compressor.

If you have one of those units like some whirlpool/Kenmore/Inglis that have electronic controls in the refrigerator section, this is the board that controls the thermostat and compressor on/off cycling. The board behind your freezer is also connected to the board in your fridge, this one controls the defrost.

Return air duct frozen over

check to see if the evap fan is running inside freezer.
clean cond coil under back of fridge.
check if evap coil inside freezer is froze over, if fan is running and cond coil is clean, it may need a defrost timer.

Refrigerator has a clicking sound and does not run

Replace the motherboard (part # WR55X10942) but be careful to check that the evaporator fan (inside the freezer) turns on when you power up the refrig again. A bad evaporator fan motor can take out the motherboard. If compressor starts with new board but not evap fan, unplug immeadiatelly and replace the evap fan motor to save new board.

Fridge and Freezer won't cool.

The evap fan is running - but is your compressor motor running -t his is what i'm concerned about - 82F ? That is very high - this suggests to me there is no cooling AT ALL - only the fans are working - and my gut tells me your compressor is not running AT ALL - I would rule out thermostat since when it kicks in and your evap fans turn on, your compressor should turn on too. If this fridge has electronic controls, have your motherboard / control boards checked, have your compressor checked. If your compressor is running and you can hear its distinctive humming sound, then you have a sealed system problem, a major one :) Have those two things checked.

Kenmore room air cond fan runs, no cool. checked

if the fan motor is on but the compressor is not : if the compressor has correct voltage up to the terminals and is not operating, the compressor is bad, if ther is not power to the terminals, the start components may be the culprit, if there is no power to the start componenets then the controller is the issue.
