Go the repairclinic.com and click on the "Repair Help" link. On the following page look for the "Dryer Belt Diagrams" link under the "Special Features" section. There is an extensive list of dryer belt diagrams for numerous makes and models. If this is a Whirlpool, refer to diagram H or K. If you aren't sure which diagram to use please post back with your complete model number (located on a nameplate around the door opening) and I'll explain. I hope this helps you.

SOURCE: Can't get replacement parts back on Kenmore 60 series dryer.

The belt has groves, right? Make sure the groves go over the motor pulley from the right. The idler pulley is spring loaded. Place the belt around the idling pulley with the smooth side of the belt on the pulley. This should work.

How do you replace the drive belt in a kenmore dryer model 88042

Pull the fron off. Remove tub, should have a spring loaded idler pulley next to the motor. Make sure that it is not broke and spins freely. Also check tub support rolers on each side. They shoule spin freely. If ok, put belt around tub, install tu. Put belt around spring loaded pulley. May need a hand holding tub while you install pulley. Put front on. Make sure the fron of cover fits inside the tub seal. Good luck. email me with issues, bobby.crochet@lyondellbasell,com.

Won't spin or start

Sounds like the screen/sock combo got the tub in a bind and the drum belt broke.

If you want to pursue replacing the belt, let me know.
