Whirlpool 25.6 cu. ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator with In-Door-Ice Dispensing System Logo
Anonymous Posted on Jan 07, 2010

Whirlpool side by side fridge and freezer 2000+ model mint conditon. problem is freezer 5 in parts and 25 other parts. Fridge 45-50. Dials sent up to high to keep cool. Took all out as we have a seperate freezer and seperate fridge. What do you think would be the problem. I thought maybe too much was getting jammed in the freezer a s cool goes from freezer to fridge. Took some stuff out of freezer last night thawed out juices and completely frozen other stuff. Temp in fridge went down to 38 degrees. Problem is all coils are not on outside of fridge one is underneath and looks dirty but really don't want to take apart. Machine is completely off and been cleaned. Is self defrosting. Your take as to the specific problem that caused the freezer juices to melt completely and the fridg to be fairly warm?

Yes it is. We have taken everything out and relocated to other units. Thought completely cleaning would help. With it turned on and empty (and nice and shiny)the fridg and freezer are quite cold. Maybe we overpacked the freezer? Don't know!!

with unit turned on, open freezer door and listen for sound of fan motor behind freezer wall, should be blowing and circulating air. Back wall of freezer should be very cold.

I had ge refrigerator and the fridge is not cooling well

For starters a year and model number would be helpful. Do you have turn dials to contol temp of freezer and fridge or electonic pushbuttons? The fridges with manual rotating dials use a "dampner" between the freezer and fridge section. In short the freezer evap fan blows air in the freezer but also has a passage from the freezer to the fridge section which aloows a controled amount of air from the feezer section to cool the fridge section. IThis passage may be obstructed by ice build up or some other blockage. Units prior to 2002 are not controled by circuit boards and the ones after 2002 are. For more specific help give me the GE fridge model please.

Freezer temp. 3 green lights flashing.

the flashing lights can be fixed by first turning the fridge off at the mains then turning both dials to economy ( this results in the fridge making a ..beeping sound). finally turning both dials fully in anti-clockwise to the off or zero position ( resulting in the fridge light bulb - going off).
Then lastly turning the dials back to our desired setting....(bulb light comes back on)
Now we only have the center green light on and NO FLASHING.

Whirlpool bottom freezer 5 years old everything freezes in the fridge

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

Freezer works, Fridge doesn't

The defrost timer inside the fresh food compartment is most likely the problem. Need to turn the timer slowly clockwise until compressor stops. I should remain off for about 25 minutes. During that time the freezer should be in defrost. You may be able to open the freezer door and hear the crackling and sizzle of the defrost taking place. If the timer does not restart the refrigerator after 25 minutes the turn the timer clockwise again until the compressor restarts. Number 6 in photo below is the defrost timer. The replacement timer part number is 482493. Here is a photo. Thanks Sea Breeze

Freezer cold/fridge not

take back plate off inside freezer and see if there is ice build up on the pipework. if so, this prevents airflow and the fridge is affected first. melt off ice with a hairdryer and restart.
if fault reoccurs, you have a fault with the defrost system
