Tip & How-To about Televison & Video

What to do when you have a cracked LCD, LED or Plasma TV

Spending a ton of money on a new TV is the norm these days. Unfortunately televisions are not made like they used to be. Flat panel LCD, LED and Plasma TVs are very fragile. The picture area can be cracked by even light objects hitting the TV.

Once the picture is cracked there is no way to repair it. It needs to be replaced. TV manufacturers purchase LCD, LED and Plasma screens in large quanities and get a great price. When your local repair shop has to purchase a single replacement unit, you will often find it is as expensive if not more expensive then a new TV (if its even avaliable) when you factor in the labor costs. Usually you are better off replacing the TV with a brand new set the next time a good sale comes up then have it repaired.

You would think the TV's warranty or extended warranty you purchased would cover a cracked screen. Alas.. they don't. Every warranty I have ever read does not cover accidental damage. As soon as the repair person sees the screen is cracked, they will tell you the warranty does not cover it and you are out of luck.

While there isn't much hope for repairing your current TV, you can take some simple steps to protect your new TV from damage.

1. Mount the TV on the wall. Its a lot harder for little kids to hit the TV or throw something at the TV when it is mounted on the wall vs sitting on a stand.

2. Explain to the family how fragile the TV is. While this might seem obvious.. kids do know things until they are taught.

3. Wear the wrist strap while playing video games as recommended!

4. Pickup a tv screen protector from a company like TV Armor. They are designed to provide impact protection for the TV without affecting the picture.

Following these simple steps can keep you enjoying your new TV for many years to come even if you do have a budding baseball player at home.

You likely got water on the LCD display panel's driver board. The only thing you can do without spending a lot of money is to take the set inside and allow it to dry for a few weeks. If you are lucky enough that no circuits were damaged, the lines will go away. If you are unlucky, the circuit was damaged and the replacement circuit/display panel is as much as buying a new TV.

it has a power problem it needs inverter i dont know from where to get it. model number is GU22wDVD

Unfortunately parts for this TV are very hard to find because it's not a name brand T.V. You shouldn't take it to a repair shop either. It would be a waste of money for them to tell you the same thing. Keep checking on E-bay now and then, but other than that it's time for a new T.V. I recommend Sharp. Or any LED/LCD.

Screen goes dark

Man, there are a ton of people on here that are having problems with Polaroid LCDs. If your TV is that new, it is definitely going to be covered under warranty and I would call them and tell them what exactly is going on with the TV. Their Customer Service Hotline number is 1-800-605-5364. It's ridiculous that the TV is only a couple months old and already the picture is going out. You would think after spending all that money you would have a TV that would work great for years!! Hope this helps...
