Cuisinart 14 cup coffee maker won't heat up. It turns on but no coffee is brewed. heat plate is cold and water stays in resevior. Is it worth fixing? Can it be fixed?

The CBC-1600 comes with a thermal carafe. therefore, it doesn't rely on a heater plate to keep the coffee warm.

If the water is not coming out of the filter basket, and is instead leaking over the edges, then replace the brew basket.

If there is no water at all, call Cuisinart - those coffee makers have a 3-year warranty.

Reset the timer for shutting off the hot plate, instructions are in the user manual.

this is what happened to me, I didn't have the filter basket all the way down so the pot lid didn't open the valve that lets coffee flow so the coffee and grounds ran into the water resevior and plugged the filter, so I did the worst thing possible and took the filter out so the grounds got into the check valve that keeps the hot water going in the right direction. that makes it spit and sputter and brew slow.
after trying to flush it out forever I tore the metal plate on the bottom off and unhooked the rubber hoses (don't do this unless you have a needle nose pliers, you'll never get them back on) one should go to the brew head and the other is the water inlet, this has the check valve. you can tell which is which by blowing through them and seeing which one goes to the brew head. if you can blow through the other one the check valve is stuck open, I blew air into it with an air compresor and this forced the check valve shut and now it works fine. I know this is the same symptons as calcium deposits but I had cleaned it twice.
try flushing it with water first but sometimes it takes extreme measures

Clean it out with 1/3 caraffe worht of vinegar and 2/3 caraffe full of water - just brew the solution as if it were regular coffee - you may have to repeat this process up to 3 times.

Another possible reason for backup - using paper/gold tone filter at same time. If not:

You have not missed anything. Unplugging for longer than 16 minutes (has 15-minute memory) is the only troubleshooting you can perform. Call Cuisinart to find out if you are still in warranty. All electronics have a failure rate. Cuisinart's is acceptably low, but their coffee makers are the least reliable of all their products. The basic problem with electronic coffee makers is that coffee makers produce high heat, and high heat kills electronics and melts plastic. At least Cuisinart has a 3-year warranty - higher than the industry standard.

Let me put it another way. All coffee makers have a high failure rate. As many Cuisinart coffee makers that break down, the non-Grind-and-Brews still have a 91 rating from Consumer Reports. Consumer Reports doesn't give ANYTHING a 91 rating. A lot break, but you probably won't fare much better by switching to a different brand. The problem with a Cuisinart breaking down is that an expensive unit broke down - you wouldn't be upset if your $15 Mr. Coffee broke every year. The law of averages is on your side - a 2nd Cuisinart will probably last longer.

Finally, I got my coffee pot to run through without stopping several times. To fix it I had to run vinegar through eight times! Never before has it taken so many cycles to clean out a pot. It is still spluttering a bit so today I am going to get more vinegar or maybe even CLR and run it through a few more times.

Cuisinart Coffeemaker Decalcification Process

Run 2 cups distilled white vinegar and 2 cups water through the system - brew it like it was regular coffee. Then run plain water through the coffemaker to rinse the vinegar out and make sure the decalcification was successful. Repeat as needed. Don't forget to remove the charcoal water filters first.

The problem is in the sensor that tells the coffee maker when the brew cycle is complete. This is a heat sensor that's clipped to the heating element. The sensor gets overly sensitive and shuts things off too soon. Since schematics and parts aren't available for this unit, it's pretty much junk after it starts to fail. You can remove the sensor, but this creates a major fire hazard. My advice is to pick up a good percolator and forget the drip units. The Grind-N-Brew makes excellent coffee, but they barely last out the warranty and the cost of replacing them mounts up. I've gone through two (same problem with both) and it's no longer worth it to me.
