My Scanner is not communicating with the computer. I tried plugging it right into my mac mini, and I get the same message. i tried plugging it into a hub (with a power cord) still no go???
My scanner worked fine till now. I connected the scanner and the computer (Mac OS 9) and opened Canoscan Toolbox 4.1, then CanoScan Toolbox X, pressed Scan-1 to scan a photo ( there was no sign of life in the scanner), and a window popped up, saying "Cannot Communicant with scanner. Cable may be disconnected. Check status, Scanner driver will be closed." the cable seems fine to me. and I was doing what I did before, but I don't know what it means about "status" and "the driver will be closed," would you please help me? This was a problem with Mac's and this scanner (are you using 10.3 OS)? Try unplugging the scanner then replugging it in, sometimes after the mac sleeps and is woken, the scanner will not be recognised (happened on XP and Vista PC machines as well) also try using image capture on the mac rather than the canoscan toolbox software.
If you want to give installing the drivers and software another go, download the software and driver remover tool from canon's site before re-installing
If you are using Mac OS X 10.5.x, then you're out of luck. That scanner is not compatible. If it is an earlier version of Mac OS, then check out the website.
Are you referring to the scanner or the computer not having a light on?
The scanner only lights up when it is scanning. If your computer is running ok, check the Apple System Profiler to see if the scanner is detected. What Mac OS are you using? Leopard is not supported with this scanner model.
Keep in mind that connecting a specific scanner to the computer would have nothing to do with the computer now powering on unless there are physical computer hardware problems. Disconnect any uneccessary external peripherals from the computer (printers, scanners, webcams, etc.) and see if the computer will power on. Remove the computer battery and put it back in. Check power connections and test to make sure the electrical outlet is working by plugging something else into it.

No sign of life from my scanner when I try to use it with the same computer as before - a Mac.
