I want incoming calls to disconnect modem

I setup an old iMac G3 for my mildly autistic nephew to blog with. My sister has a dial-up connection for him and no calling waiting on her phone line. I've set the modem to never disconnect when idle as my sister requested. She's still having one problem with the dial-up setup in general. When she receives an incoming call, she actually wants the Internet connection to drop so she can take the call like her old WebTV did for her or at least know there was an incoming call. I don't see a setting anywhere for this and the only Google solutions I've found are to counter the behavior she is asking for with phone lines unlike hers that have call waiting.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated - whether with a built-in setting, Apple script, or third-party application. Thanks.

My sister's iMac is running OS X Tiger (10.4...). Thanks for the link, but that seems to refer to configuring a modem to allow for Remote Access with scripting. I found that in my search, too, but passed over it.

After speaking again with my sister, she told me that I assumed incorrectly about her phone line. She actually does have call waiting, which usually interrupts connections for other Mac OS X users, but not her.

Resume call is a function of the modem...
Unless that G3s modem has a firmware update to allow this,
I think you are looking at a new external modem.
Look for V.92 on the box

Sometimes when the phone rings I loose internet services

@mushrush

Are you subscribe to a DSL service? If you are, make sure that you have a DSL Filter installed (see image below). Without this DSL filter, you will get disconnected when there's an in-comming call.

If you're on a dial-up connection, this is normal since your Telephone and modem share the same line thus disconnecting your Internet when there's an incomming call.

Can't set up dial-up connection

Restart the computer.
Enter BIOS setup.
Click to "disable" both the COM1 and COM2 (or Serial1 and Serial 2) ports.
Save-and-exit from BIOS setup.
Restart Windows.
The modem should now be assigned as 'COM1', and should work.

Possible modem problem

Make sure you log on details are correct. Confirm the dial out credentials. The line just needs a dial tone, which you can test with a land line phone.

About Distinctive Ring Pattern Detection (DRPD)
"Distinctive Ring" is a service provided by some telephone service providers. Two phone numbers are assigned to one phone line so that you will hear different ring patterns for incoming phone calls than for incoming faxes. If you subscribe to this service, follow the instructions below to program your All-In-One to use it.
On the X125:
Press Setup once, then press Menu nine (9) times until DRPD appears on the display.
On the X63:
  1. Press Setup once, then press Menu eight (8) times until DRPD appears on the display.
  2. Press Options until you see Learn, and then press Start/Yes.
  3. Dial the phone number that you want to use as a fax number. (Do this from a different phone line, not from the line the fax will be installed on.)
  4. Press Setup.
  5. Press Menu until you see Fax Receive Mode on the display.
  6. Press Options until you see DRPD, and then press Start/Yes. The All-In-One detects the ring pattern and answers all incoming faxes on the second ring.

Wont connect to the internet

Try this, assuming you're using Internet Explorer: Go to Tools > Internet Options and select the Connections tab. Does it show your old dial-up connection in the list? If so highlight it and click on REMOVE. Close IE and re-open it. It should now use the Belkin LAN connection.
