Controls on front of tv don't work. Remote is fried. Worked perfectly with universal remote 4 years until today. Now the picture looks like a bowtie with rainbow shadows, almost 3D-like. Is it fixable?

If it is a universal remote not branded to the tv and the batteries went dead or are out for too long then the remote lost the codes and needs to be reprogramed!

The RCA universal remote rcr312w from wal mart will work (8.00)  Just follow the AUTO SCAN instructions.  Worked for me today!

TRY UNPLUGGING THE T.V. FOR TEN MINUTES. THE TRY THE BUTTON ON THE FRONT OF THE SET. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET AN ORIGINAL REMOTE FOR AROUND $40 .

I would start by trying other codes on the universal remote. Sometimes codes will only work part of the remote such as the numbers or channels but not volume. Your motorola cable remote sounds like it may only need a good cleaning. sometimes when you take remotes apart it will look like somthing got spilt in it. I would start there first.
