Shelf stereo turns off by itself and stops working all together.
I have a philips fw93 shelf stereo system and it tends to shut off with out waring at random times. it doesn't come back online unless i unplug it for a few minutes then replug it. the cd player also stop playing but yet you can her the disc still spinning.

How loud u cranking it? cause i've tested my stereo to its max...and it suddenly dies...reason: its juss like a small scale car stereo system...the built in AMP cant handle the out-put..

Are these speakers compatible or are you just adding speakers because you have them hanging around?
If you have effectively less than 6 ohms of impedance on any channel you may run into problems and the unit may either die or protect itself by refusing to stay ON.
It's fairly obvious that if you do X and undesired Y happens you might want to UNdo X and rethink it.
You cannot . This a feature that detects a short and shuts the stereo off before it can do further damage. If you can disconnect your speakers try that then turn on your stereo. If it displays protect mode your problem is internal. If it stays on try hooking up one speaker at a time to see if one of your speaker is bad. Make sure you turn off your stereo before attempting to reconnect your speakers . Good luck
