SOURCE: rotel dvd player not reading dvd but will read cd

As for me, im used to using something called Daniusoft dvd ripper to backup dvds to computer or other devices like iPad/iPod/iPhone/zune/Blackberry...

As a result, in the first place i can watching dvd movies any time and any place, in the second place this can prevent losting or damaging dvd disc.

Dvd does not read loaded disk

Have a detailed answer on wiki.answers under how to fix a dvd player. My conclusion is : 1. If the cd or dvd player won't start a disc (might display 'no disc') open the box and get good access to the laser lens (quite easy in many models). Clean the lens with an ear-bud (q-tip) and add some alcohol (I used after shave) on to aid the clean if there are still reading problems. Persevere with cleaning before trying option 2.
2. If it's selectively rejecting certain dvd's (and the problem might have become worse with time) consider ever-so-slightly bending the fine wires that suspend the lens over the laser, in an upward direction. Be very careful and read all the observations above first (on Wiki).

Why doesn't my DVD player read DVDs ?

In most cases when the CD does not play it is possible that the optical head is a suspect. Sometimes it might pick up ordinary audio CD but will not play other formats. This indicates that the optical head is weak and so there is no detection or scanning of the CD . If the optical is working the tracks will be read immediately but with no scanning the laser head can be defective.

The main motor will not work in some cases as unless the tracks are read the drive motor will not work with signal from the processor. Also in some cases the central motor base can shift and so the distance to the disc can be more resulting in low detection. You can pull up the spindle to come closer.
Sometimes certain cleaner disks will not be tracked to run for cleaning as it will not be read and so will reject. Hence it is ideal to manually clean the laser head eye using a cleaning swap /cotton bud with gentle pressure on the lens eye.
If there is no result then watch if the CD spins or tries to spin. If so the board seems to work unless a test is taken on the main board but the possibility of a defective optical head can be the suspected fault.
If any of the above seems otherwise we must recheck with possibilities of a malfunction of the main processor board

I have an rdv 1060 which will not play dvd's cd's are finecan u assist

Unfortunately, the DVD laser diode is probably faulty. a separate laser diode is used for reading CDs so these still work. The laser unit will require replacing.

Rotel dvd player not reading dvd but will read cd

if it doesnt read any kind of dvd discs at all it only means you have been rip off. It happened to my sony dvd player that I bought from this website. I tested it and it only reads cd or audio cd. Good thing my couzin fixes electronics, He checked on the lens and it turned out that the lens has been replaced with an audio/cd lens like the one we use for our car stereo. Too bad!!!

After playing a cd in unit will no longer read DVDs

Had the same symptom. The unit would play CDs but not DVDs. The DVD laser was at fault. Purchased and replaced laser unit KHM-313AHC (ebay- $20) and it now works fine.

Suddenly stopped reading cds but reads dvds

Could be a bad drive, as DVD lasers are a little different than just CD lasers. The laser may be bad for one, but the other can work. I had this issue, had to buy a new drive.

Pioneer DVR K17A don't read CDs

Does the player play Audio disks? if so then it could be a software issue. It sounds more like the CD laser has died on your unit. The CD/DVD unit has two lasers, one for the CD side of things and another for the DVD. If still under warranty get replacement.
Hope this helps.

Have you tried cleaning lense with soft cloth and alcohol? Sometimes cd or dvd cleaners do not work well for some systems.

Trouble with ROTEL RDV 1040 DVD Player. Today I would like to share with you the latest behavior of my ROTEL RDV-1040 DVD/cd player. Whether it is a purchased pre-recorded audio disc purchased from GAME or MUSICA, Kalahari.net, audio files on a CD-R disc, audio files on a CD-RW disc, MP3 audio files on a CD disc, It does not matter. You put an audio disc onto the disc tray, Press the close button, Wait for the machine to read the disc, Press the play button, The playback will start. The machine will play track 1, It will proceed to track 2, 3, 4?? The WONDERING starts, - Will the machine play the disc up to the last track? Or will it stop along the way????? You listen & wait, The machine will finish playing, for example, track 4 or 7 or 9 or 15 or 20, ECT. The action varies from cd to cd. It even varies on the very same disk, after the play action was started again. Silence follow, the machine stopped all by it self. The open/close button has to be pressed several times before the CD tray will open. Now the play action can continue for another few tracks. At other times, it will sound as if the machine has been PAUSED. Clearly hearable, the machine is spinning the disc, as if in pause mode. The ?STOP? button can be pressed, the machine continues. The open / close button has to be pressed several times before the machine will stop & the disk tray to open. You leave the same audio disc on the disc tray, the ?PLAY? button is pressed, and playback starts again, at track 1. The very same action will happen again before the end of the disc, at a different spot / track. A CD Laser Lens Cleaner was inserted into the machine, to clean the laser lens. But the problem still persists. I mainly play audio on the machine. The first ROTEL RDV1040 player was purchased the end of August 2004. After using it for a few months, the player did exactly the same behavior. It went back to the importer / distributor, Meta Acoustic Development, 3 times. The laser unit was replaced. After playing a few disks, the problem was back. Meta Acoustic Development/ replaced the player with another player. The second player behaved itself, until recently. Is this a general problem on the ROTEL RDV 1040 models? Can this problem be solved?? Is it worth getting the player fixed? Won?t it be better to replace the 1040 player with a new model? I would like a good, solid, reliable, durable, no nonsense & trouble free player that produces good, clear, solid, true, trust worthy sound. Will the ROTEL RDV 1062 DVD player or the ROTEL RDV1093 DVD player be an excellent replacement / choice? Are they reliable & trouble free????? How about one of the YAMAHA DVD players? I use a ROTEL RSX 1056 home theatre amplifier, together with a BOSTON speaker package. Can you please advice me??? Thanks for your time & response. Greetings Pieter Fleming. peterf12@telkomsa.net
