No digital readout on home thermostat. No backlight either.

This morning I went to turn up thermostat and the digital readout was fading, lots of dashes here and there, but no readable numbers. Backlight was on at this time. Changed alkaline AA batteries correctly and replaced faceplate. Now no backlight and no digital numbers. Changed to another set of new batteries. Still same problem. The heat is running, but does not stop when room is hot.

Turn the Furnace off, Disconnect the R and W thermostat wire from the control board located usually in lower compartment of furnace, the blower
is usually mounted behind it.

Make sure the 2 wires you disconnect are going to
R(usually power) and W(usually Heat) other terminal
markings are y(for cool) g(for fan). After Disconnecting the R and W wires Turn the furnace
back on. You will probably have to hold a door switch
in to complete the circuit. If everything is correct the
furnace should not run.

This is more than likely that you have the R and W
wires touching eachother and you need to get them seperated.

Readout turned totally white After being in a Lot of rain. Cannot see digital readout at all.

Take a hair dryer to read out. Water will evaporate and eventually you will be able to see readout again. You may have to open up bezel to allow water vapor out or it will recondense on inside of bezel. Hope this helps.

Had the LCD TV For 5 Years, no problems, then just before going to bed i was about to turn off the tv when the screen went black but sound was fine. I switched channels and you could hear the channels...

Your problem can be related to either LCD backlight inverter failure or T-con board failure. Please turn on your tv, darken the room and see if you notice a dull glow on the screen. If you see a dull glow then backlight is functional and the t-con is dead. Otherwise it can be a backlight inverter failure(in some cases the backlight itself). In that case I would try replacing the backlight inverter board and hope its not the backlight as the backlight is embedded into the the panel and the only way to replace it is to replace the panel.

Readings disappear on thermostat for awhile then come back

Hi Linda,

There are a few things that cause this:

  1. When the heat is starting, it will sometimes go blank for a few minutes and then resume.
  2. Most have batteries, replace them with fresh new ones, if the electricity goes out while you are away, the batteries will keep the settings.
  3. Have someone check the house when it is extremely cold or hire a service to monitor. Your alarm company can usually add temperature sensors to your home, it will add a little safety net for you.
Hope this was helpful, please rate my answer.
Thanks,
Paul

Face of clock looks faded. an 'E' before the time, radio wont

The E means you have tried to put an MP3 CD into it and it didn't work.  There is a button atop the clock radio that allows you to fade the backlight.

Acer lcd monitorX221W : 18 months old, no prior problems. Today, image suddenly went out. Upon restarting, the name ACER comes on , fades after a few seconds, then the prompt to fill in Password. The...

Sounds a lot like the backlight for it is just about dead. Nothing you've done can cause this to happen, and it certainly isn't a setting on the monitor or PC.

The backlight can be bought as a part, and replaced by a technician (or yourself if you have a rough idea what you're doing). By the time you find one, buy it, ship it, fit it... it might not be worth your time for the cost of a new 21" widescreen monitor.

You'd probably recoup some loss by selling it as faulty for parts too.

Still, be 100% sure before you do it... borrow a monitor and plug it in. I bet the borrowed monitor won't behave the same way. =-]
