Hello Audio Gurus..This is my 1st time on here.. I always loved music and I have decided to raise the bar a little in terms of sound considering that I enjoy listening to music more then 2 hrs a day.. I recently bought a Harman Kardon AVR 1600 Receiver, rating is 55 watts per channel at 35amps.. Im thinking about buying a pair of Cerwin Vega Ve-12 Floorstanding speakers, 300 watts..I was going to run, non-oxidized copper wiring to the speakers, 14 gauge.. Would this setup work well? Will i blow and fuses? Thanks in advance..

No, the CV speakers are very efficient speakers. That means they create a lot of volume for the amount of power. I will start by saying you will be relatively happy but not blown away.

The HK is an alright HT receiver (very new and feature loaded). It makes a rather weak stereo receiver for it is made for a home theater environment. If you only have a pair of speakers (optimal for music listening) then you have paid for a bunch of other channels that will remain dormant. You would be best off to get a very high-power stereo receiver or integrated amp instead of your HK.

CV speakers are built to blast, but they sounds pretty good at the same time.

Feel free to ask me any audio related question, I've worked in the industry for a good part of my life.

Thanks!

This is a great question for me as well because I just purchased the same HR receiver. I will use it for both home theater and music in a 20'X30' room. Currently, I'm thinking of using an older KLH home theater speaker set which is described: "handles 10 to 100 watts per channel and--at 8 ohms/88 dB sensitivity--will work nicely with almost any receiver". It includes a "passive subwoofer with high-pass filter for satellites (ensures optimal crossover point between low and high frequencies)".
I was thinking about substituting (another older) a Jensen JS650 subwoofer but would that be unwise to do?
Also, do you think I should invest in a new HomeTheater speaker system now that I have purchased the AVR1600 and if so, do you have any recommendations as to what would be good choices in maybe the $300 to $400 range? I enjoy many musical genres from blues, classical, new age to hard rock.
Thank you for any advise you can give me.
    Bob

Is my husbands blood pressure to low 114/75 he,son medication after a tripple bypass.

Hello Rosemary Maynell,

No...!!
(and worrying accomplishes nothing but anxiety
(anxiety raises BP... There are no metrics for life & love)).

FIRST... MEDICOS consider blood pressure (BP)
in RANGES... and ALWAYS in conjunction with
other HIGHLY pertinent data (age, weight, activity
levels, heart rate, Oxygen saturation... DIET...
MEDICATION COMPLIANCE... (etcetera))...
Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES...
(SAVE unexplained dizziness) would a
114/75 BP be considered anything but good news...

Keeping records:
is a GOOD THING, dietary awareness & personal
discipline are great... BUT LIVING LIFE
should take precedence over all...

If you want to count numbers... Count
Calories & the amount of SODIUM (salt)...
Taken daily (1300 for both get MD advice).

Act normal & normal will follow...!!

It is highly understandable that you
might be even more traumatized than
your HUSBAND... So I am going to
give you my VERY BEST ADVICE...

If you give up dancing, drinking, jokes & smokes
you MAY not live any linger... but it will certainly
seem like it.

Live, laugh & love... enjoy!

I am not a DOCTOR but I can assure you
nobody is getting out of this alive
(Opinion: live well... life is short).

Speakers bose docking station make a noise

Have two Bose docking stations and the oldest (white) one have some problems now. When I put in one of my iPods in the docking, the speakers make some weird, creaky noises. Kind of a sound, when I'm looking for a channel on the radio. When I wiggle a little bit the connector from the docking station, it will play some music for a short time. Still it is not the same quality sound, it used to be. Also, some times the sound is too loud and when I touch ONE time the volume minus (-) button, you can hardly hear the music, it is too soft. Hope somebody can solve this problem.

Panasonic dvx100p is not recording audio

You may have switched the audio channels to the xlr inputs 1 & 2. The switches are under the flip out viewfinder try flipping them to the internal mic and see if you get levels. If the audio level nobs are turned down all the way you won't get audio either. Always check before you go out to shoot, record a few seconds of yourself doing an audio check then play it back to see if you hear anything.

I lost my instructions for hooking my sound bar up to my new tv I ahd it hooked up to the last one and it worked now no sound and when I raise the volume it doesnt do a thing I programmed it to with m

Some sound bars have a seperate power cord, did you plug it in. Also, the source for the sound, are you using the audio outputs and not the audio inputs. They are all the same color (red and white) so you may have plugged in the wrong ones. If the sound bar is getting power, say a green led and the source for it is the tvs audio ouput jacks you might have to see if there is a seperate remote for the sound bar and raise the volume. Lastly the tvs audio output might have a seperate setting, it could be fixed or variable. Fixed will only change volume with the sound bar remote. In variable you will be able to change the volume with the tv remote but first you have to raise the sound bar level. Hope this helps in some way.

The black pull out or push in button for vent should it be opened or closed while using the air conditioner unit?

Here are some factors you can consider, when YOU DECIDE:
1.) Do you need fresh air in?-- (Like venting hot, or bad smelling air?)
Then open the vent for a few minutes--

2.) Is it hot and muggy outside?-
Then yo will be bringing in that muggy air--
OK for a few minutes, to freshen up things- but not for long term--
(For the humidity from outside, is going to overload your cooling capacity quicker.)

3.) As time goes by-- you are lowering the humidity inside the room--- Opening the vent will raise the humidity inside.

Does that help?

Peavey XR800F 8 channel - I can't get but very little sound to my big speakers. Help

Troubleshooting is always a "process of elimination." Have you tried hooking up your Peavey powered mixer to another set of speakers? How about connecting the speakers to another audio system? Your term "very little sound" could mean audio input problems, mixer/amp settings or failure and possibly speaker damage (internal passive crossovers). Please be more specific.

Where can I get CD-R's that will work on this machine in Australia these days? ie Are there any non audio marked CD-R's that will work in it? I have tried Verbatim and TDK CDr's without any success. I have...

I don't know about availability of CDR-A or -Music in Australia but they are the only media that home CD Audio Recorders are designed to use.

Regarding the CD-RW Audio disks - I've used them for quite some time and do eventually get uncorrectable errors on them but never No Disc displays. Just the same, I don't consider them reliable enough for vital long term storage of music and use my PC to copy them to a CDR as soon as I can. Being a data- rather than real-time-music copy, I reckon the PC may be able to retry errors it encounters and maybe correct them during the copy.
