No, the CV speakers are very efficient speakers. That means they create a lot of volume for the amount of power. I will start by saying you will be relatively happy but not blown away.
The HK is an alright HT receiver (very new and feature loaded). It makes a rather weak stereo receiver for it is made for a home theater environment. If you only have a pair of speakers (optimal for music listening) then you have paid for a bunch of other channels that will remain dormant. You would be best off to get a very high-power stereo receiver or integrated amp instead of your HK.
CV speakers are built to blast, but they sounds pretty good at the same time.

This is a great question for me as well because I just purchased the same HR receiver. I will use it for both home theater and music in a 20'X30' room. Currently, I'm thinking of using an older KLH home theater speaker set which is described: "handles 10 to 100 watts per channel and--at 8 ohms/88 dB sensitivity--will work nicely with almost any receiver". It includes a "passive subwoofer with high-pass filter for satellites (ensures optimal crossover point between low and high frequencies)".
I was thinking about substituting (another older) a Jensen JS650 subwoofer but would that be unwise to do?
Also, do you think I should invest in a new HomeTheater speaker system now that I have purchased the AVR1600 and if so, do you have any recommendations as to what would be good choices in maybe the $300 to $400 range? I enjoy many musical genres from blues, classical, new age to hard rock.
