cubase registers in and out light with correct tascam driver,   tascam indicates in and out however headphone sound is noise and crackling.

Im not familiar with cubase but if its anything like logic and reason, you should check the midi options maybe in preferences of the cubase programm and make sure that the appropriate soundcard is selected, so in this case the us-144.
and sometimes it could be one of those stupid midi glitches, and so you have to restart your computer.
maybe the best opt is to get a better soundcard.
im this close to throwing my tascam under a bulldozer..

Computer freezing while using Tascam 122l

Hi

I would perhaps try to reinstall the drivers for the device, and be sure that under audio settings, you have the Tascam set as the default device. Try this and get back to me here if it still gives you problems.

Burn CDs from Tascam US-122L

The answer is yes, but it may not work as simply as you think. You can't just save your Cubase file / mix and then send it to your recorder. You'll want to render down the song you have to one stereo .wav file and send that to burner as a wav file. (That's the quick way). Another option is to render each file you have seperately so acoustic guitar, bass, vocal, etc are all seperate tracks. So the answer is yes, a .wav file is the format for audio cds. You'll record your seperate tracks and then you'll have to mix down, render, or export them when you are done. In Cubase, use "export".

Playing Roland RS50 through Cubase SE on a PC

Sounds like you may have a MIDI loop. If the Midi I/O Meters on the transport bar ar all the way up then that's the case. Uncheck the speaker Icon next to the track when you are playing.

It's also usually a good idea to have each track set to have it's midi input be just your controller, not "All MIDI Inputs" which it is by default.

Finally, make sure your instrument has "Local Off" configured under its MIDI settings. This prevents it triggering its internal sounds directly and forces everything to go through the sequencer.
