As for me, im used to using something called Daniusoft dvd ripper to backup dvds to computer or other devices like iPad/iPod/iPhone/zune/Blackberry...

As a result, in the first place i can watching dvd movies any time and any place, in the second place this can prevent losting or damaging dvd disc.

If it doesnt read any kind of dvd discs at all it only means you have been rip off. It happened to my sony dvd player that I bought from this website. I tested it and it only reads cd or audio cd. Good thing my couzin fixes electronics, He checked on the lens and it turned out that the lens has been replaced with an audio/cd lens like the one we use for our car stereo. Too bad!!!

the beam on the electronic eye might not be reading the disc...clean it as much as you can it might help...good luck to you

Dvd player won't read Widescreen formatted disc all of a sudden. When I put in a standard formatted disc it works fine but w/a widescreen formatted one it just tries to load it and then says no disc.
Pull it's power plug out for 10 minutes then reconnect and switch on and see how it is then.
You may need to run Auto Set-Up again.

Will not play cd

Dvd player doesnt read the dvd or cd
Try a different cd if the player won't read any CD or DVD then there is most likely a problem with the actual reading hardware. If under warranty HP should replace, if not can take to a repair shop or purchase a replacement unit. Another thing to try would be looking for a reset to default options in one of the configuration menus to make sure there isn't some software setting that is causing the issue.

I have an rdv 1060 which will not play dvd's cd's are finecan u assist
Unfortunately, the DVD laser diode is probably faulty. a separate laser diode is used for reading CDs so these still work. The laser unit will require replacing.

Dvds and cds don't work. the screen just says reading to no end
First remove power cord from the wall for five minutes o reset the firmware. Then power on again and let the firmware load before inserting any dvd or cd. If it still can not read the disks, you use TDK lens cleaner until it can read the cleaner disk. It maybe power line glitches, you may need powerline filters for this dvd player.

Well I fixed the problem myself by taking yhe cover off and cleaning the laser with a cue tip and alchohol very gently of course. I guess it was not reading the disc the first time it closed because some foreign object , works fine now
