Dot & Crosshatch Generator question

I recently replaced both IC's on my Toshia 43H70 projection TV and one bad resistor. The picture is much better but I cannot line up the blue cross on #3 and #9 on the convergence screen. I read about using a dot & crosshatch generator. What is it and how does it work?
Thanks

Hey, I'm no repair man but I recently had this same problem. I can't remember the exact name of the thing you need to adjust, but I can tell you where it is (or atleast give you a starting point to google).
If you remove the front panel of your TV (You probably have to remove the speaker panels first, then remove the center piece) you should see the bottom of the lamps. It will look kinda like an upside 2-liter with an extended bottle cap.
Using the 2-liter bottle analogy, at the base (where the "funnel" meets the "neck") there are 2 rings that are right next to eachother. If you play with these rings, you can line up your convergence.
I wish I remembered the name of these rings, but if you do enough googling, you should be able to find more detailed intstructions.
Hope this helps!

This is a piece of equipment that injects a cross pattern signal or a dot signal (such as the little game connect the dots) and you align the colors exactly on the dots or the cross boxes such as you have already experienced with your cross hatches. i would think more along the lines of another resistor, connection, or something real close to where you already are, sounds like you almost got it just need to look one more time.

I am getting ready to replace the 2 STK392-110 IC for a convergence problem on my Toshiba 43h70. Where would I locate these two ICs so that I can save time trying to find t

Along with the convergence IC’s there will also be some associated components that will need to be replaced as well. There are some resistors that are part of the convergence circuit that will be open and need to be replaced. Most likely these will appear charred in the center. If you have an Ohm Meter or a DVM, check all the resistors that are close to the IC’s and you should be looking for either ones that have opened or have changed values.

If one of the convergence IC’s are found to be bad, I would replace them both, if one has gone bad the other may go soon. I usually order my parts from Andrews Electronics in California, they will have the OEM components that you will need.
Their site is
http://www.andrewselectronics.com/welcome.aspx
And their phone number is a 24-Hour Order Desk: (800) 274-4666
I recommend the phone order so you can talk to the person about the different types of IC’s that are available.

I would also advise that the convergence IC’s be OEM or better, just because they are cheap does not mean that they are a good deal. I have seen the cheap IC’s fail after a short time, even though they look exactly like the OEM IC’s. I think that the bottom line is that you will get what you pay for when it comes to the parts.

You can also try
http://www.tvrepairkits.com/ , they do carry OEM or better parts.

Fuzzy picture and dark picture and color seperation when hot.

The colors seperating is a convergence problem, as far as being dim this may be related but the TV likely needs service adjustments.

convergence output IC problem. convergence board would have to be removed - remove and replace 2 STK IC's and check the surrounding resistors. Shops usually $200-$400 Be sure to vote/rate me if this helped Thanks!

Rplaced both IC's and now need fine tuning

You probably got 1 more resistor that is out of tolerance. These resistors have to be within 5% of their rated specs if not that's your problem. Check them with a digital meter with one leg of the resistor out of circuit for true readings

CONVERGENCE PROBLEM IN TOSHIBA 43H70

Hello Renee, You have a convergence problem, but you are adjusting the wrong system. You need to adjust the convergence rings first ok You need a dot and crosshatch generator to properly set convergence for this set. Connect the generator set the TV to channel 3 and turn on the generator set it to dots adjusting the convergence try to get the center dot RGB all together and then adjust for the outer edges using the convergence board. the use the crosshatch to adjust convergence along the lines of the crosshatch pattern. Remember use the rings first and the the convergence board adjustments.

43H70 has sound, no picture.

look in by your convergence ic's for load resistors to feed b+ to the ic;s see if any are opened there usually about 2,2 ohms 2watt

43H70 Blue Convergence out of line and will not line back up

If the blue colors will not line up, and the blue appears to sag inward from one or more sides, then you can bet that one of your convergence IC's has either cracked loose or burned out. The IC should be resoldered or replaced and the convergence realigned by someone experienced with projection TV convergence circuits.
