Hi, we have recently had the same issues. This problem continued over a 6 month period and just this week the element went. So perhaps this was a sign it was on its way out or perhaps if we had it fixed we could have saved it from going. It cost $200 for a new element. Perhaps if you get it checked out now you may be able to get it fixed a bit cheaper.

I have a Maytag 3 door ,freezer on the bottom, for the last 3 years every few weeks the fridge looses its coldness and the freezer is ice cold also it it always on temperature 1, so I have to unplug it...

Either, the defrost timmer has had it, or the freezer defrost element has failed, the element is the most common cause of this type of problem. You have ice build-up in the freezer cores because it cant defrost, all frostfree units rely on cold air from the freezer to blow into the fridge, if the freezer cores become blocked, air can not pass to the fridge side. I bet you, if you left the unit off for 2 days to defrost totally,,,,with the doors open...then plugged it back in, it would work like new for 2 weeks.
Timmer or defrost element needs to be replaced...do not fall for the trick that the fridge mech. has to take it away, you tell him that this is the problem and you will save yourself ALOT of cash.

Dont forget to vote for the solution...regards Russ

We have a Amana BR18 Easy Reach bottom freezer. The fridge is turned up all the way, barely keeping food cold. The freezer is not freezing anything (ice, etc.). The freezer is still blowing cool air, but...

Low refrigerant assuming the compressor is always running and not being shut down by the thermostat.

You can hook up an ammeter to the unit to see if the current consumption is below spec, another sign of low gas situation since the motor is not working as hard as under normal conditions.

Kenmore upright freezer only 3 years old running ,no clicking noise, no ice build up but won't completely freeze although set to 7 (lowest temp)

check door seals, also check vent direction, a dial or lever in fridge, it adjust how much air goes to fridge and freezer

Ice build-up in freezer door - in frost free freezer - no problem for 1st year.

It may be a symptom of air entering to the freezer, so the seal may have issues. Another possible cause if the ventilator in the freezer is not working anymore. It depends of the Fridge model number that you have.

Ice build up in my frost free upright freezer

I looked at the BACK at the bottom underneath of my Sears Kenmore frost free upright freezer and what was causing the ice buildup was very simple. At the factory, the assembler looped the little hose too high and when the water went into the hose it could not get out due to being too high in one spot! An ice dam will form, blocking ALL water coming through
and freezing up any more water coming down giving you a HUGE wad of ice that is scary!!! I just removed the screw holding the loop that holds the hose and put a bit of warm water down the little hole on the INSIDE (Behind the grate) to melt the remaining ice in the tube. You need to take out 4 screws and remove the grate to see this. I could not believe that this was the problem! I haven't had any ice build up since. Now don't tear your freezer apart before you try this trying to fix the compressor, thermostat etc. It may be the only thing wrong with it!
