LG LFC23760SW Side by Side Bottom Freezer French Door Refrigerator Logo
Anonymous Posted on Jan 03, 2010

LFC23760SW is DEFECTIVE! Woke up to a dark fridge that didn't work. Paid $100 to find out it's a fuse. Apparently this is the same issue for ALOT of other people I've seen posting on the internet. Even though it's a 20 cent fuse, you have to replace the ENTIRE $200 control board. I say this is a defect (intentional?) built in to happen exactly 13 months after purchase. Ours went after 15 months. LG didn't want to hear about it.

Replace fuse and two weeks later the fridge stopped cooling (though freezer still works).

Complete sham. Sorry to say, but all looks, no performance. Garbage company with garbage 1/2-cooked products from phones to fridges.

7 Months later.... the fridge is working. I've had to replace the fuse three times now. If you need to replace the fuse see this link:http://www.fixya.com/support/t3844322-fi... There's a link there to some pictures on Amazon which will make identifying the offending fuse a bit easier and some directions to help you through the task. It's a little intimidating at first but with some patience and care (i.e. Unplug the fridge and be careful with the icemaker line!) you should be OK.

I ran a dedicated power line to the fridge which may have helped. The neighbor cut some branches by the power lines which may have helped.

I think the last thing I'd like to do is install one of those Eaton/Cutler Hammer whole-house surge protectors at the fuse panel in the basement. Not sure if it will make a difference but it can't hurt to add a layer of protection to all of the circuits in the house. Good luck and save some bucks, people! I'm tickled pink that some folks were able to save their LG Fridges for just a few bucks with my post. In this economy every buck counts. Peace all. DC73

The EXACT same thing happen to our fridge18 months after purchasing. Of course warranty has run out and circuit board isn't covered on parts warranty. Same horrible service with LG and repair men saying they had to replace the whole circuit board and it would cost $250-500 to replace. My husband and I took your advice and replaced the fuse exactly how you said...thanks to your instructions. Fridge is working now for about 12 hours, but am awaiting the next blow out. THIS FRIDGE IS HORRIBLE. Advise all friends/family to never buy this fridge or any other LG fridge. A little research of complaints and seeing that there is a class action law suit exists on the model # right above this fridge will clearly tell you that. Thanks deecee though for the temp fix.

Yea it is a common problem, i've replace alot of the boards

Our LFC23760SW purchased 8/15/2008 was fine this morning and dark now. Known good power, seems like a fuse to me. LG played hot potato and bounced us to Sears where we were on hold for a half hour to find out it's not covered and the soonest they can get someone to out house (capital city of Wisconsin) in Saturday. I can replace the board myself (electronics background) if I can get one.

If "tapping" the SOLENOID ever worked... you
HAVE A DEFECTIVE SOLENOID.

Defective is all inclusive... and when "STUFF"
happens (burns up)... it is VERY LIKELY to cause
COLATERAL damage...

(FRIED WIRES & IGNITION SWITCH)
((fix that "STUFF" later)).

At the SOLENOID ... apply "B" battery DIRECTLY
to the "S" terminal of the SOLENOID...

IF it does not fully spin up the starter 100% of the time
the solenoid or the starter is DEFECTIVE.

I had alot of ice on the fridge so i chiped it then a couple of days later the ice started melting and then it started not to cool u think i messed up the fridge chefmate model bc-87/h

Sorry to hear about your problem. Sounds like you have a defrost issue. Hence your unit is not defrosting. All of this apply's if your freezer side has ice on it. If not. you have other issues
Here is a list of some things that can go wrong.
1. Defective heat coil
2. Defective defrost timer
3. Defective defrost sensor
You should call a service company to resolve your issue.

Since I tried to help you, Please help me and Rate/Vote on the response. Thanks

LG Model LFC23760 (French Doors, bottom freezer) power prob

Unplug fridge.
Open panel on back of fridge (the one at hip height that says Service Panel Only - Do Not Remove, blah blah blah)
See pictures here: http://www.amazon.com/LG-LFC23760SW-French-Refrigerator-White/dp/B00198A5C0/ref=cm_cmu_up_thanks_hdr
Replace fuse with 9A 250V slow-burn fuse. I used a gray fuse harness from Radio Shack so that if the fuse needs to be replaced again I can just pop in a new one without doing the soldering over.
I nuked the original fuse, the end-caps and the wires that went from the end-caps/fuse to the motherboard. I replace those wires with some I scavenged off a fresh thermal fuse (also bought at RS, just needed the wires themselves which seemed to be the same diameter/gauge as the original leads) and ran them from the motherboard to the wire harness.
So far, so good!
Good luck to you.

LG LFC23760SW stopped working-no power. Power

Unplug the unit and remove the board cover. The fuses are soldered in but can be changed with a soldering iron. They are glass and easily spotted on the board.

Where do i find the fuse

The fuse is absolutely replaceable, not sure to what the other poster is referring. I just replaced the fuse today (not the main computer, nor the motherboard, nor anything else but the fuse and the approx 1/2" metal wires/leads running from the motherboard to the fuse.
I did mention that others were having problems with this unit to LG Customer Service at that phone number and they were unable to help me out other than to say, Sorry, you don't have an extended warranty on your 15 month old fridge? That's too bad. We feel really bad about that....
Good info about the lights staying on in the fridge though they should be off if the doors are open. Sounds like a larger problem if the lights are always on.
LG's suggestion was that the fridge go on a dedicated line and breaker from your main panel. It's probably good advice and it is advice that I will follow up with a call to my electrician.

More info below:
Here is a little more review:
Unplug fridge. Pull out from wall. Be careful not to stress/break ice-maker line if installed.
Open panel on back of fridge (the one at hip height that says Service Panel Only - Do Not Remove, blah blah blah)
See pictures of opened panel here: http://www.amazon.com/LG-LFC23760SW-French-Refrigerator-White/dp/B00198A5C0/ref=cm_cmu_up_thanks_hdr (more comments posted on Amazon regarding LG Customer Service)

Use a hot iron. (but don't burn yourself).
So far, so good!
If still working in a few hours enjoy a cold beverage... you just saved yourself a lot of $$! The company LG recommended to buy parts was closed (it was a Saturday) and HHGregg was open but they wanted $273 for a replacement motherboard. A trip to RS even if you had to buy a soldering iron and solder is still cheaper than that.

Good luck to you.

I HAVE A 250V/9A FUSE TOWARDS THE BOTTOM OF THE BOARD THAT HAS BURNED OUT..I CAME HOME FROM WORK AND THE FRIDGE WASN'T WORKING. OPENED UP THE CIRCUIT BOARD PANEL AND THERE IT WAS.. CAN THE FUSE BE REPLACED...

Just replace the fuse, I just did it today (3/6/10). Unf. Radio shack only had an 8A slow-burn fuse so I used that for now but the fridge is working. I nuked the leads on the fuse so I soldered on some of the lead of a thermal fuse that I also got at Radio Shack (I just used the leads and tossed the fuse). I also put the fuse inside of a harness in case it needs to be replaced again, no soldering. Good luck!

LG LFC23760SW has no power, plug is good checked with trouble light. is there a reset button?

I have the same issue - along with ALOT of other people I've seen posting on the internet. Even though it's a 20 cent fuse, you have to replace the ENTIRE $200 control board. I say this is a defect (intentional?) built in to happen exactly 13 months after purchase.
