Josh's reply does not make sense. The Poster said he was using a genuine Sharp replacement roll, and yet it did not work. So when Josh says you have to go back to the imaging film -- please clarify what that means? The Poster is using genuine replacement film. What more can he do? Josh's reply does not make sense. I have the same problem, incorrect film, check film. Arrrrrgh... After been trying about for 2 hrs to fix this stupid problem. Eventually I tried a trick to cheat the machine. It works for me. This is what I do. It reads the old film. So, cut out about 3 pages length of old film. Join the old film to the new film starting point. Make sure you have the same side for both film(one side will scratch, but not the other side). To find if you have a right side, use a sticky tape (Sellotape) to stick and pull off and you will see the black thingy come off. One end of Old film join to the new film, the other end join to the roller. Make sure you stick the full width of the joint but not just abit. Now roll back the new film side with old film. Load to the fax machine. The fax machine now will check film (of course we have the old film for the first section for him to check). Film check Passed. Now make a few copy (Photocopy) documents until you are satisfied with the resolutions, approx 4 pages. then Bingo, you got new film in it and no more check film. And touch wood that I don't need to open the cover again till it finished! Good Luck.

It took me a long time to work this one out.
'make model (what it is)' in all questions please. It is referring to 'Fax Film Ribbon'. Video at the bottom. And what is _probably_ your manual?

A compatible should be fine. Some of the new Brother laser machines can actually be broken by non-OEM toners, but yours is not a laser. The worst I'd expect from a donor film might be a slightly poorer image. Try it out. If you have to load the film rolls into your old cartridge, make sure it's running the right direction, and with the correct side down.
Try just making a copy and see if you have the black lines on your copy (most fax machines have a basic copy function if it is you have dirty scan glass and on these small machines it is a real hassle to get too and clean Try Canned Air. If no black line on your copy it may be the recipients machine.
Have just tec support (10p per min robbers !!) Here is what you do OPEN MACHINE
WITH THE NEW INK FILM IN, ROLL THE INK FILM ON ROLLER NEAREST TO YOU FORWARD UNTIL ALL THE SILVER STRIPS TO THE RIGHT ARE NO LONGER VISIBLE (THIS IS THE BAR CODE ON THE INK ROLL IT'S SELF)
REMOVE INK FILM FROM MACHINE
CLOSE MACHINE
TYPE IN OK 45 OK 7117 OK (THEN IT WILL ASK IF YOU ARE SURE) YES (CHANGE WITH < > BUTTONS BETWEEN OK BUTTON )
The film cartridge can be purchased at almost any office supply store like Staples, Office Max, Office Depot, online and even Ebay.
IF there is film still left, make sure that the tension of the film is tight where there isn't any slack. If there is too much slack, or you are at the end of the roll, then you will get that message on your machine. One thing you can try is to roll the film backwards. There is a supply roll, and a take up roll. Just take the cartridge out and spin the roll the opposite way for about 5 feet or so. Then place the cartridge back in and see if it works. If it works then all you need to do is buy a new cartridge. Hope this helps. Good luck
