I have a Humax rt531B, about 4 years. During August,Freeview suggested retuning, I have lost many stations, gained several new ones, which don't work, either scrambled or unavailable, poor strength.

Poor signal strength is the bane of any receiver. See if you can improve matters by connecting your antenna to a good antenna amp and connect latter to your humax. Bet it works better. Also position as high as possible and direct it in the direction of most of the stations you want to receive.

Check the signal level and quality. Reseat all aerial connections.

I have lost TG4 & RTE 1 & RTE -how do i restore

Sounds like you have a problem with the aerial or the connection cable. Hows the signal level and quality on the other channels? You need about 80% quality and 50-80% signal level for a decent stable picture. Quality is by far the most important.

I cant watch sabc 1,2,3.they are scrambled yet all my collegues watch them using other decoders models

You should not need a decoder for SABC 1,2,3, the signals are not encoded. If you are having problems with the picture quality you ar most likely using a UHF antenna where the SABC programs are broadcast in VHF at present. Fit an additional VHF antenna and a combiner box or change to a universal antenna.

Picture is scrambled after power surge. Have a

Check if it has a scrambled image on all sources ie - DVD- VCR - cable/satellite box. Since the PIP is normal it sounds like the signal source is bad.

Is it the DCT or the cable signal?

if you are getting signal of the proper strength and quality the cabling is good.the problem is the box trying to decode the signals.a lot of signals are encripted and have to be decoded by the box.if the box is not responding fast enough you will see bloches on the tv.if you see scrambled channel you are not payinfor that channel.and if you are paying for a channel and it comes up scrambled your box is not working correct.get your company to upgrade the box.
