Check the connection of your speaker at the back of your computer if they are connecting in the line-out (color green) of the sound card. If the connection is in the line-out, just check your speaker it maybe ok or have no problem on that. If the speaker was ok just check the hardware at the device manager by Right clicking on your My Computer on the screen, click Properties. Dialogue box was appear then click Hardware, click Device Manager and check the Sound, video and game controllers if don't have an error. To identify if that hardware has have an error you can see the yellow color mark like that (?) or (!). If no mark like that your sound card was no problem. But if they have, just install the driver for that hardware to solve that problem. Or if you did not find the Sound, video and game controllers on your device manager your sound card are damage and need to be replace for a new soundcard.
Chances are that the wires connecting the speakers to the main board have been cut. The same thing happened on my 710m, I no longer have any sound and have been trying to figure out how to get replacements, I've found a few on Google, but have some apprehension about opening up the whole thing and replacing them. Hope yours is just a driver problem.
Go to "Device Manager" and look if any yellow or red alerts are being displayed next to any devices. To access the "Device Manager" go to the 'Control Panel", "Administrative Tools", "Computer Management" and select "Device Manager" located in the left side column. If there is an alert, double click on that device to determine the problem, i.e.… device not configured, cannot start this device, etc… It sounds like all your software drivers got blown away or can’t load. If that’s the case, try running diagnostics. Press and hold the <Fn> key while powering the system on. This will initiate a diagnostic routine to check your hardware. hi when u open your pc if sound is show or xp sound run ......hope your speaker jack check... .. you go my computer properties then go hardware device you can see any yellow mark.....if show any mark ? yellow your driver is not install ...then you install your motherboard driver .
Make sure your volume is not on mute. If the speaker icon on your lower right has a red x means its on mute. To test go to control panel and double click sounds and test. If Windows sounds work without speakers then problem is with speakers. Make sure volume is up, make sure its properly connected to correct output jack (usually green or light green). Also make sure speaker power on. If those things are correct check your device manager ( right click my computer) select "manage", click on "device manager" and on right pane check to see if theres any yellow exclamation, question mark or red x on the sound device section. Yellow exclamation or question mark means to update or install correct drivers. Check your speaker box if it comes with a CD. '
Couple of thoughts:
1) is mute on?
2) is the volume turned too low?
- assuming you have XP for the following -
3) if you open the control panel and go to 'sounds and audio devices', make sure the volume is 25-50%. Click advanced button and put all volume sliders at 25-50%. Make sure none of the 'mute' boxes are checked.
4) Right-click 'My Computer' and click 'manage'. From the list at the left, click 'Device Manager'. On the list at the right, is there any items under 'sound, video, and game controllers' that have a yellow exclamation or red x on them? If so, you'll likely need to reinstall the audio drivers.
