Are caller ID units interchangealbe between 2 homes?

In and of itself, the AT&T 436 does not provide any call blocking feature. For that, you should contact your local service provider to see what they offer and the monthly fee.

The VMW light indicates when a new voice mail message has been received in your local service provider's voice mail box (if you subscribe to the service). The provider will send a signal to turn the light on and another one to shut it off when there are no new messages.

If you do not subscribe to that service, the light will never turn on.

It's the MagicJack that "sends" both the telephone-number and the caller-ID information -- nothing to do with your Internet supplier.

Hello Samiran mandal, here is a solution.I purchased one cordless telephone (Siemens Gigaset) in Germany. I also had the same problem, caller-id did not work. I purchased this telephone because we can set different ringtones for different caller groups. But, if caller-id doesn't work, this feature also doesn't work. I had gone through internet and finally found that CA electronics, Bangalore has it and got it through courier (I live in Pondicherry). It worked flawlessly for two years. Then it stopped working. For 'no reason' I ordered for a 'caller-id' unit on ebay for Rs.75/- (+ Rs.75 shipping). I just got the unit and fixed it to my line. Very very surprisingly, my cordless telephone is now showing caller info. This is a real surprise to me. By the way, caller-id unit is "Eurotel" make, DTMF/FSK caller-id. I feel this is very nice solution. The 'caller-id' unit is nice (backlit display) and also there is no need of converter for using the caller-id feature of your foreign telephone. I connected caller-id between the line and telephone. That's all. Enjoy.

Just call the number that the unit is connected to from another phone, cell phone for example. The unit will get the date and time of the call and it will be set on the display.

some of these units actually just do that normally. you can always try requesting another unit, or buying a better one, unless you're really just tired of the inconvienience. these are kind of cheap anyways, and when it comes to electronics, you get what you pay for. hope this helps :)

This is the info from the users manual, it seems a bit strange,
but claims if you set the number of rings before it answers, (for the answering system) to "2" it will stop the audible caller ID.
Here it is from the manual.

If you turn on the answering system
and set the number of rings “2” (page
38), the unit does not announce the
caller information. If “Toll saver” is
selected and there is a new message,
the unit does not announce the caller
information.
When you receive a call while on the
phone, the 2nd caller’s name is not
announced even if you subscribe to
both Caller ID and Call Waiting with
Caller ID services

To turn Talking Caller ID on or off
You can turn Talking Caller ID on or off for the handset and base unit separately. If
this feature is off, the unit will not announce caller names. The factory preset is ON.
Handset Talking Caller ID feature
1 Press [MENU].
2 Scroll to “Talk Caller ID” by pressing [d]
or [B], then press Select.
3 Select “Off” or “On” by pressing [d] or [B].
4 Press Save, then press [OFF].
