First time using Magellan RoadMate 1200 the screen will not go any further than USB connected screen. Tried to update it from the website. Still nothing! Any suggestions?

Steps to Update Magellan Roadmate 1200 GPS :
1. Go to official website of Magellan and choose "support" option. After selecting the support you will find the various options. You have to select "Manual and Software Update".
2. Choose your product from the drop down the menu and select Roadmate series. A pop up will display on the screen and choose I want to download this update.
3. Hit the "Download Now" button.
4. Checkout every connection under "Redesigns and Maps" to buy Latest Magellan Roadmate Gps Update . "Add the lives maps which are available to your Cart," at the time of proceeding to the "Continue to Checkout."
After completing the process you will get an email from the Magellan. It will later to download the Update on the SD Card itself.

• If you have software version 1.46 or 1.48, your software will be updated to v1.50.

4. Select "System Settings"
5. Select "Next"

yes it can, but youll have to get the lcd with the digitizer, because the are soldered on the the lcd and very difficult to replace.

you can buy a good used, but broken 1200 off ebay for under 20.00 normally, because the 1200 has a problem with the usb port becoming damaged or broken and ask the seller if the screen is good

you can also by a new screen but its harly worth it, since yyou can buy a new 1200 for under 70.00

Just got off the phone with Magellan East (my guess is India as I had a hard time understanding them and said "What?" 20 or 30 times) to which they said that there is no way to reboot these systems. I updated to 2.20 and it froze my GPS. I have to send my unit back to them and they are sending me a refurbished one free. I am outside the warranty period according to them but have AAA, which gave me an extra year on warranty, so they are honoring it. Give them a call at 8007079971 to get this fixed.

Have you tried going to the Magellan website and try down loading the update to your plugged in unit?

As for connecting it to the computer, you'll need the usb cable that came with it. Then you'll want to do this:
Follow these steps to connect your Magellan RoadMate to your PC.

1. Turn ON your Magellan RoadMate.
2. Touch "Map" to display the map screen.
3. Connect your GPS to your PC using the USB cable.

im sure its not trash, but i dont think the usb will charge this model ( the usb wont charge all models of magellan, only some) while the unit is on, use a paperclip and insert it in the small hole on the side of the gps, that should return it to its normal state.

The USB must be for charging the unit and downloading updates when it becomes available. You have to unplug the USB and use the battery power to put in addresses .My 1200 does the same.
