Onkyo HT-R510 center and left surround channels won't work

I have had an Onkyo HT-R510 receiver for four years; it has worked flawlessly. I have my DVR from Dish Network and a DVD player connected to it. Never had any issues. Yesterday, all of a sudden, the right rear channel and the center channel just stopped working. I changed cables, speakers, etc, tried everything I can think of to no avail. Has the receiver gone south? Should I just buy anohter one? Thanks for any advice you can provide. Devon.

Ok, which unit lost the channels, which source(s) are affected? What type(s) of inputs are failing (optical digital or coaxial audio, analog audio?). Try speaker setup to troubleshoot.

SOURCE: no surround sound

So your saying that you have no rear channel. Some recivers use a single stereo output ic for both sides on the rear speakers. you could have a defect with this IC . Anther thing Im sure you check3ed the obvious ie : the switch is on suround sound? If there is a front to rear fader is it in the middle? Good Luck

SOURCE: Onkyo TX-SR500 Dolby Digital problem

I just read over the problem you were having with your Onkyo TX-SR500 receiver. It sound like the unit needs to be setup for all five channels.Sence your symptom says the diplay shows Dolby D3/2.1. According to the owners manual with the remote control look for speaker setup whin the button is pressed the current speaker setup will be shown in the display. Press the preset/adjustment<> to change the current setting to five speakers. the listening mode will automatically change according to the number of channels you selected. Hope this helps. SOURCE: Left rear surround channel sometimes doesn't work

If your receiver has speaker protection relays and they are intermittent due to bad contacts you might be able to repair them if they are not sealed. Most are but take a shot. They make small files for this purpose. Replacing them can be daunting because yo may not have good access. Tap the relay with the receiver playing and see if it helps.

ONKYO AV Receiver - model is HT-S3910 (B)

Hi,the letters after NG refer to the affected channels - left center, right surround, etc. Do you have speakers plugged into these channels? If yes try to unplage all speakers then plage one speaker at a time, check your speakers if that dosent work for you try to factory rest your unit .

Intermittent speaker performance - receiver issue - not a speaker issue

Matt,

Have you checked/cleaned the leads on each speaker as one bad lead or speaker can pull/push extra power from/to other speakers causing shorts, this is likely not the case but could be the easy fix. Try cutting one speaker out at a time rotating which one is disconnected to see if this fixes the issue and possibly points out either a bad speaker or connection.

Onkyo HT-R510

have you tried to reset it to factory defaults yet? If it has a vcr button on the front, then hold the vcr button and press power...it should say reset on the front. Might not help, but worth a try.

I can not figure out how to adjust the balance on my speakers. It seems that one speaker in louder than the other. I cant find my manual and i've been tinkering with the receiver with no avail.

Tinkering won't work. HT510??? Not HTR510? Maybe that's what you meant.

All AVR's have settings for individual speaker channel levels and distances from the listening position.

Selecting phono preamp for Onkyo HT-R510

The magnetic cartridge preamp should work with the turntable, as presumably it will have a magnetic cartridge in it. The only reason that the amp states "magnetic" is that some very old turntables have ceramic cartridges which should not be connected to that terminal. Even if the turntable had a "ceramic" it could be replaced with a magnetic one!

I have 1 center channel pre-out on back of my kenwood receiver. how do i hook it to the inputs on onkyo m-282 amp and then to center channel speaker?

Unfortunately can't connect it that way. The pre out is only meant to go directly into an amplifier that has all of the same inputs (front/rear, center and surround), not a standard receiver. (Pre amp to amp only, not pre amp to receiver) If your Onkyo doesn't have all the same inputs as your Kenwood preamp has outputs you will just use your standard left/right outputs from the Kenwood to your Onkyo input (CD, Tape, Phono,DVD etc) then use the outputs (front/rear, center and surround) from your Onkyo receiver and connect directly to your speakers..

Only one surround back speaker works

It sounds to me like one of your speakers may be mis-wired. Try reversing the speaker wire (don't switch right-for left, but switch negative for positive) and see if that changes anything.
