Epson sx200 printer, wont print black ink only

Im going crazy! My printer has one colour cartridge that has run out the other two are low and the black ink is a brand new cartridge. Please tell me why that when I want to print a document in black ink only, it wont print it, and a message pops up saying i need to replace the colour cartridge thats run out!! Its ridiculous!! Im going to take the darn thing back to the shop, as I have no time to mess about with a printer that wont do a simple task that doesnt require any colour ink!! ahhh

The printer i have is a printer,scanner, copier so surely this shouldnt be the case? i see what you are saying though, just replace the empty cartridge, but still cant understand why it just cant print my letter in black ink only. I have a photo printer for photos, this printer is for scanning copying and printing, something it seems not like to do!

Many printers especially Photo ones also use colour even when printing Black. so you do need to replace the spent colour cartridge.

If you only need to print in black get a B&W printer not a colour one.

Hi
the easiest way is to send a print job to printer. If any cartridge is empty, the printer should refuse to print and display an error message. This should indicate which cartridge is empty/not recognised - with a red X above the empty colour. Another way is to go to 'printer properties' then 'maintenance' page and click on 'Status monitor' button.

BLACK INK NOT WORKING

Black ink head clogged/cartridge empty. Go to Printer Utility and do a Nozzle Check, Print a Pattern. If Black pattern lines are missing/broken then do another cleaning. Don't forget to try a new cartridge if the cleanings do not work. Refurbished Epson printers are great and can be purchased at www.epson.com/clearance. I have used them for 15 years.

I have a new black ink cartridge but my printer wont print because the color ink is empty is there a way to get it to print without refilling the colored ink since i only need black???

When printing in BLACK, a small amount of the COLOUR ink also is used.
This "trick" prevents the COLOUR ink-jets from clogging, due to not being used.

So, you need to have a "good" COLOUR ink-cartridge.

One colour cartridge on epsom sx200 is empty yet it wont allow me to print in black only

umm... this is not a solution because I don't think there is one apart frombuying new inks. Epson and all other inkjet printers do this to preventthe coloured print head nozzles from getting blocked. If they are notused for a long time the ink dries up and blocks the nozzles. Epsonrecommends printingat least once a month with all colours to prevent this. Printing inblack only option will only work if the colored inks are OK. Wheneverthe printeris turned on it performs a head clean, this is why the coloured inksget used over time even though they are not used for printing.

My epson stylus SX200 2C will not print black , i have replaced the ink 3 times and cleaned it - it has a lot of gaps and sometine doesn't print black at all. Colour is fine. Help please .

I have excatly the same problem. I have cleaned the nozzles mutiple times and replaced the blck cartridge twice but I still have patchy printing in the black portion of the test print and horizontal banding in word documents

Low black ink - can not print at all

Most epson inkjets that use separate colour and black cartridges will not print if either the colour or the black cartridge is empty. The printers come with cartridges when new but they are only part full and more ink is used up filling the printer reservoir when first starting up. Replace your black cartridge and you should be able to print. barrie60s
