You have to finalize the disc first.once it is finalized you can not record any more material on it,so make sure you record everything you want on a disc. you can maximize disc space by changing speeds on the dvd recorder. for example: if you have 5 hrs of stuff on a tape, set the dvd recorder for 6 hrs or more recording time.the quality should be ok [depends on how good of quality you want] if you set the speed for 2 hrs, your quality would be better, but obviously everything won't fit.
hope this helps

I have the Zenith XBV443. I'm trying to copy saved programs from my dvr on my tv to dvd discs. My neighbor has a simular model yet we can't find out why I'm unable to do the same. What do you think is the...

Hi there,

The Zenith player/recorder will be able to record to DVD from an external input such as a PVR. The most likely reasons you are unable to record successfully are:

1. The TV / DVR is not connected to the Zenith recorder correctly. You need a separate cable for recording. You cannot record using the cable that is connected for playback of DVD discs.
2. The TV / DVR does not have "VIDEO OUT" sockets
3. You have not selected the correct external input on the Zenith recorder

If you can let me know the brand and model number of your TV / DVR and how it is connected to the Zenith DVD recorder, I can let you know why it isn't working, how to make it work, and even draw you a setup diagram, if required. It's very difficult to give you the correct answer without these details.

You Zenith DVD recorder will record from the DVR - the real question is, can the DVR send video to the Zenith DVD recorder . . . ?

Regards,
BElectric

Limited viewing

It sounds like the recorder will only record the dvd+ format, which does NOT need finalizing to play in other machines. ( you can record a dvd- , play it back on the machine you recorded it on, but need to finalize it to play on other machines)
The other units may only accept dvd-.(dvd- being the same format as you would buy or rent a film on)
One option, record the dvd on a dvd+rw (if possible) then copy to a dvd-r using your computer. The average use of a dvd+ is 1000 recordings.
There are many free disc burning suites available to download. Just google "free disc burning software" and take your pick.
I use 1 called "magix goya base" for copying disc to disc and "NTI" for burning to HDD and then to disc, if you only have use of 1 drive.

Recorded dvd's won't play in another dvr

The problem is not the dvds themselfs it is the other play that you are trying to play them in (some players do not play DVD- and DVD+ or any other of self recorded disks) Look on the players box to see all what types of disks it can play!

Dvd Recorders

Most DVD recorders have a "Scart" input. I assume your VHS has one also. conect a scart lead form the VHS to "Input" scart on DVD recorder. Select the "scource" of viewing on the DVD to "Scart", press record on the DVD and "Play" on the VHS and away you go. You should be able to view whats happening on your T.V. when you select the scart that the DVD is connected to on it.

Viewing a recorded DVD+R on PC

I am assuming you have an actual dvd drive of some sort installed in your computer. The problem you may be having is a missing codec. This problem can be solved by downloading a VLC player which has most needed codecs pre installed. This program is freeware and can be easily found online. I hope this helps. Good Luck!
