To Save the color ink you can change the printer settings to Black Only.

To Setup:

  1. Press START Button.
  2. Select RUN Command.
  3. Type these commands in CAPS.
  4. CONTROL PRINTERS and press OK or Enter.
  5. Now you will get Printers & Faxes Window.
  6. There you select the ink jet printer which you want to change the color settings.
  7. Right Click on it and Select Printer Properties later.
  8. Select Printing Preferences
  9. There you can see lot of window tabs (just like a worksheets). Depends on printer in any of the TAB you can see the option Black Only / GrayScale Printing Only.
  10. Choose the appropriate option and Select APPLY.
  11. Then give a test page for it.

That's it...

Hope this will be helpful to you..

Thanks & regards
Nandu :)

Make sure your both the cartridges are working properly and it is not dry just remove the color cartridge and clean it with tissue paper and fix it again and when you give print command make sure it is not in grayscale printing. If still there is problem change the color cartridge.

Do I have to have a color cartridge in order to print? Can I just use a black ink cartridge?

The HP DeskJet 6122 can print with both or only one ink cartridge installed. The printer driver includes an option to print in gray scale as a substitution for color. If you choose to print a document that has a color other than black and white with only a black cartridge installed, I recommend you select the gray scale print option. To select gray scale, select the printer properties and check the box for gray scale rather than color printing. This selection can be made either at the time a document is ready to print (ie., a one time selection, using the "Properties" box in the print options window), OR as a permenant setting using the Control Panel, Printers, HP DeskJet 6122, "Properties" window. Once changed in the general printer properties, these settings remain active anytime the HP DeskJet 6122 printer is selected to print a document.

My hp Color Laserjet 3550 Printer wont print black when it is out of color ink

The 3550 won't print in any color if any of the colors are out. You'll have to replace the color ink that's empty to get it to print.

In the future, if you're just printing black and white, you can select "Print in Grayscale" from the print properties to just use the black ink cartridge, which will help the color cartridges to last longer.

go into your driver and change your color preferences to black and white. that way when you want to print color you actually have to tell it to do so. which will save your color ink, and will print much faster. full color printing of a black and white document uses all ink colors except black to make what is called process black.

Deskjet doesn't print real "black"

In the printer preferences, you can choose to print black or color. Check to make sure that when you print, you haven't specified color only.

Printing in black and white only

Tr-color ink is empty, the printhead is clogged up, inks need purging/ran through a cleaning cycle.
