Make sure you're not in the macro mode. There's a slide switch on the end of the camera, near the SD card slot. Set this switch to the mountain position. Also bear in mind that the flash is for still pictures only, not for videos.
The flash cannot be used in Macro mode. To set the flash, press the up button (up on the circular multiselector). Choose from Force Flash (lightning bolt), Auto (lightning bolt and letter "A"), Red eye Reduction (eyeball), and No Flash (lightning bolt in a circle with a slash through it).

Their is a button on there that looks like a lightning bolt. Push that
button until the third icon on the screen is a lightning bolt with an
'A' in the corner. Take a picture and it should flash.
you have to look in the manu and turn it on auto-flash or something like that ..it actually has more than one options usually ..but ..it is in the main menu ..to do that turn the camera on ..and on the shooting mode..not on view picture mode..and it will be on the screen when you look in the menu ..select the option and press ok ..to activate ..

Remove the card and battery...press all the buttons...leave it alone for 20 minutes...insert the card and then the battery...turn it on.
