The door handle broke off my GE spacesaver microwave JVM230WV001 (over the range model). I don't think the handle can be replaced, and even replacing the door might be difficult. Am I stuck buying a new microwave? Or is this something a repairman can fix? It works fine otherwise.
Actually the door handle CAN be replaced at a cost much less than pruchasing an entire new microwave oven. And, YOU can repair this yourself and save the cost of a service call. On MOST microwave ovens, you just have to remove the inner door panel that goes around the perimeter of the glass. The following link explains how to replace the door handle:

If the model number is correct, the part number is WB15X322. The cost is about $40. Replacements may be purchased at the websites listed in the link I provided.
If you have any questions, or if your model number is different than the one listed, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you

Well, I do feel like a dunce now. I just ordered a replacement handle. The break occurred in two phases - first the bottom part broke about 6 months ago - and now I remember that I couldn't "fix" it because the break was where the screw enters the handle. So we were gingerly opening the door for the past 6 months - then last week the top part gave out. I totally forgot there are easily accessible screws on the inside of the door. Now I just hope the handle I ordered is the correct one for this model microwave! Thanks for your help!
