Black and White Only

After hooking up my Xbox recently, I'm only able to get a black and white picture. Any idea what would make the output appear in black and white only?

I had a similar problem when I first connected my son's xbox using the Audio/Video cable (red, white, & yellow connectors). I connected the cable to the TV correctly, but incorrectly selected "component" as the input on the TV setup. Result was black and white display. Switch your TV input mode to "AV" or "Audio/Video" and you will get color.

FYI, "component" TV mode is only used with devices that use the red, green, & blue connectors.

I'm sure it's the xbox OR the connection settings somehow.

When hooked up to a x box 360 everything is black and white

change the output on the xbox in system settings > console settings > display from pal to ntsc or ntsc to pal. That is the reason it is showing in black and white

When I hook it up to the TV and set it up as component 1 I only get black and white and no colour.

Are you using component cables (Y=green, Pb=blue, Pr=red, white, and red) ? If so try changing the component cables. If the picture is still coming in in black and white try another device besides that DVD player that has a component output. If a second device is coming in in black and white with a new component cable then it is the television.

Dear Sir My Dvl 919 dvd player component output give black and white images no colour but SVHS have color images.Pls advise Erwin Koh

there are three wires associated with "component output" .. those have to be hooked up to component inputs on your TV .. not to the composite video input .. if you do hook up to composite you will get only a black and white picture .. make sure all three wires are connected correctly then select the proper input in your TV setup ..

Xbox black and white

If you're in the US, then your problem is you're using a PAL system with NTSC games. Also, it may be that the system is outputting in PAL format to an NTSC TV, but I'm actually not sure if TV's are region formatted as well.

Hello cjfatback,

You want the blue/white wire.

Here's what the manual shows:

Red - Power (to ACC in vehicle)
Black - Ground
Yellow - 12V positive (battery lead)
Blue/White - External Amplifier Control Lead
White - Left Front Spkr +
White/Black - Left Front Spkr -
Gray - Right Front Spkr +
Gray/Black - Right Front Spkr -
Green - Left Rear Spkr +
Green/Black - Left Rear Spkr -
Violet - Right Rear Spkr +
Violet/Black - Right Rear Spkr -
The red and white RCA pigtail leads is for AUX input
Left set of Preamp Outputs - Rear Channels
Right set of Preamp Outputs - Front Channels
Only Models C3433U, C3304U, and C3333U have a 2nd set of RCA pigtail leads for subwoofer output.

Hope this helps.
